So if I don't create a desktop shortcut it won't see the application? This app, a text editor, doesn't have an installation. It just needs to be unzipped into a folder.
You need to create a shortcut, but not on the desktop, in the start menu folder tree (you can access this by right clicking on the all programs button in Start10 menu). Start10 works the same as the Windows 7 start menu and in fact all start menus ever.
No shortcut to the app, not visible in the start menu as it has no idea it exists. The program developer should have made an installer to create this shortcut for you really.
