BUG?: Object Dock Won't Start Icon (path not found) - Redirected from correct 64 bit location to 32 bit program files on WIN10!

Hi,

I have a shortcut in a folder, it is to "c:\program files\blah", its properties are correct and work perfectly from Explorer.

I set up a Dock Menu (Show folder in a menu), when run from the menu it tries to run it from "c:\program files (x86)\blah" and fails. The dialog is created by ObjectDock (it doesn't ask Windows to invoke it).

 

This is on Windows 10 and teh latest Object Doco 2.20.0.862

Hi,

 

I have raised ticket "#PLC-574-65717" and attached the file.  I suspect the reason may be simple, there is no 64 bit version of ObjectDock so it can't run 64 bit programs.

Thanks for confirming this is an ObjectDock feature/limitation.

 

I didn't get the solutions (or they sounded too hard) so my workaround is to:

  1. Create new shortcut to CMD.exe
  2. rename and fix icon
  3. Start minimized
  4. Set "start in" as per original shortcut
  5. Set "Target" to C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c start "" follows by a space and the original target

Hope that helps, hopefully StarDock will fix this issue by releasing a 64 bit version given that most people now have 64 bit computers and OS.

Hi there

I have object dock 2.2 and it launches all 64 bit Serif Products simply by creating an new blank shortcut and browsing to Program files\Serif then the product name(eg. Page Plus X8 and then to program and selecting the exe file eg. Pageplus.exe

It does not work if you create a desktop icon from the Setup program and dragging it to Object Dock .This always sets the path to Program files (X86) assuming it to be a32 bit program

Got an E-Mail from Stardock today regarding Object Dock:

Now compatible with Windows 10

Taking into consideration that 95 % of customers will have 64-bit installed: Does that mean the 64-bit bugs are fixed ?

The version avaliable for download is still v2.20 from October 28th 2014?

So is there absolutely no workaround for this and no support for it?

How can they even sell this product and claim compatibility when it doesn't have 64-bit support???

Just right click on the problem icon in ObjectDock and select Dock Entry Properties, then in the Link area set the correct path to the application. In most cases it just requires the removal of the space and (x86) after Program Files.  Works here.

I have this dock entry as a folder called Utilities that has shortcuts to about 20 different software utilities that I frequently use, when I try to right-click the entries I don't get any options whatsoever.

#13 - Then you don't have this problem (or you do and you happened to have both 32 and 64 bit versions installed).

#14 - Sounds like this should be elsewhere also, sounds completely unrelated to this issue.

I'm experiencing this exact issue, but I can't figure out any workaround. 

When I try to run a shortcut in a folder in the dock entry that points to the 64-bit version/path it says it can't find the item and references the path being the program files (x86) path.

The workaround that works for me, is to create a symbolic link in the stack folder instead of the standard shortcut.
