Hello

Hi everyone, I’ve just got my computer back online after getting a very nasty virus, it wiped out all of my files and programs, and left me without an operating system for nearly a week. Back online now. Off to get a more reliable virus checker.

I am almost afraid to check these links only because I don't understand them quite yet.

Anyone else willing to decipher these into something I can understand, I just can't afford to mess something up at this end.

WOW, thats one nasty critter, it comes through mass mailings using Microsofts address book among other things. It can shut down Anti - Virus checkers and Firewalls.

Thanks again Adam for sharing.

I just finished updating my Firewall, Anti-Virus, Spybot & Trojan hunta/killa's, Adaware, and Web Washer. Better safe than sorry.

Jake that is why you run soemthing called SpamKiller by McAfee, it handles your email for you and doesn't download it to your system, it also gives you the ability to view the contents of the email...

If you get something from someone you know even, that has been sent to you from stolen address information becasue they go hit with it, you can read the content and you should know if it is from that person and if not, kill it..

Also it gives you the ability to check out attachments without the chance of infection because it is all done server side...

Thanks Iplural.

I know I am late on this reply.

I am using AVG and it has a "vault" in which it will store suspect Emails and allows you to check them under quarrantine. You can set it to run a heuristics check that adds to the level of protection. So far I have had no problems. But I also delete anything I am unable to recognize, and I sparingly hand out my address.
Plus, as much as I hate to admit it, AOL does a real good job in weeding out spam for you, I will miss it when I change to another soon.
AOL should have been more careful in choosing "bedfellows" that trades in pornography, as this is the reason for all it's troubles, although they refuse to admit it.
