OD 2.20.0.850 seems to hang once in a while in Windows 10

Running a relatively clean install of Windows 10 Pro x64 and ever since I upgraded I've notice that OD seems to have periods of non-responsiveness that I've not seen in past versions of Windows. It is set to zoom on hover and stay on the desktop until i hold my cursor to the top edge. There are times where it doesn't pop up to the foreground and zoom and i cant click anything. The most recent incident also saw my cursor turning into the blue busy ring when i put the cursor over the dock area. I could right click the tray icon but that menu to unload OD was also unresponsive. Other apps remained working so it wasn't a total system lock. After a few minutes the dock seems to sluggishly wake up and then work normally. All i have is a single zoomer dock with shortcuts. No dockets running.

i have also been experiencing this as well if fact its the reason i came to the forums to see if there was an issue and or a fix or an update

yeap, I also have the same problem, with clean installed Win10 pro  x64 system.

and, I found that each time I close one program (or window), the ObiectDock will stop to response and hang for about 4~5 seconds..

any fix or update that we can expect?

The Object Dock setup hangs at the end of the setup while installing files.

The file being displayed while it hangs is ObjectDockRegRes.dll.


The installation is being run on Windows 10 Professional x64.

I ran the setup again as administrator (even though I am a local admin) and it ran fine.

I can also report having these same problems on Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. In support of the original poster, I was running ObjectDock just fine on Windows 7 before receiving the upgrade to Windows 10. A fresh clean install of the program also doesn't seem to mitigate the issue.

Yeah, ran  a few reports and scans as directed by SD support. They all seemingly came up negative for any obvious issues and I am still waiting on a reply from my lastest update. I did note that while have I only use the basic zoomer, no running program indicators or icons of running tasks and apps, the slow down seems to occur when I close a program that was opened via the dock. Hopefully that helps them narrow down the cause and issue a workaround or a patch to fix what is clearly a Windows 10 compatibility issue.

Update: Got a reply from support with a suggestion to purge ObjectDock from my system and reinstall with a new copy downloaded from the site. That build is actually 2.20.0.862 which is newer than the installer I was using but there is no changelog and the only outward change is a new style for the activation screen. While the slowdowns have lessened, it does occur when closing programs launched from the dock. The most noticable is closing iTunes:

I noted that this system is actually a new clean windows install devoid of any stardock software until reinstalling objectdock. I also used Deskscapes 8 before and it is believed to have been causing a ton of issues with explorer.exe continually crashing and possibly conflicts with the current Nvidia driver and Gsync. Since clean installing without SD software my system has been rock solid. But there have been 3 windows updates and a second driver since so I don't know if that helped. But I am leaving Deskscapes off for now since Object Desktop Manager shows it to be "Unsupported" so I'm going to wait and see if they update that before I risk destabilizing things again. That said, the slowdown does still exist but I is unclear if that's an actual bug.

Seeing the same now also.  I've been running an in place upgrade to Win 10 since a couple days after the rollout.  But I'm fairly sure the small lag or momentary freezing only started happening the past week.  I'm guessing after a Windows update, of which there have been many.

At this point I don't think there will be any immediate solution. Support mentioned they believe iTunes to be a resource hog. I'm sure its bloated as hell, but on a system running a GTX 980, 16GB of RAM and a 3770K where slow downs and hangs did not happen on Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 when using iTunes I dont think my system hardware is the issue. Clearly something changed under the hood with Windows 10 and Objectdock in addition to Deskscapes for some is showing some side effects. Whether or not its serious enough to update OD is up to Stardock.

I got the same email notice.  It's not compatible, exactly the opposite, it's compatible with everything but Win 10.  Not sure why they say "Now compatible with Windows 10" when it hasn't been updated in over a year?

At this point i let the ticket close even though it still chuggs when closing iTunes rather than get stuck in an endless loop of run this report, uninstall everything and reinstall again, etc. Worked perfectly fine with every version of iTunes including the present one on Windows 7, 8 and 8.1. Now all of a sudden iTunes is a "resource hog" despite much bigger hogs such as full on games and a pile of web browsers dont affect anything. Something changed with Win 10. MAYBE its an ofd video driver glitch? But since there been no real big driver updates theres no way to tell. Considering how little OD is updated I'm not holding my breath for an update. Frankly the thing might be overdue for an overhaul.

I was told to run the tool also.  Sent it in and heard back.  Said I should uninstall/reinstall.  Suggested a windows update since Win10 broke something?

Not sure I'll go that way, even though it's annoying to use, plus I can't remember how much is involved to get it set up again.  If Win10 broke it, fix it or stop saying it's compatible.

I am also in the midst of a bit of a test as I suspect ObjectDock to be the source of a persistent error on shutdown that reads something to effect of "the memory allocated at 0x(address) can not be found at 0x(address)." Something is clearly not quitting properly when I shut down. I've had this error from Windows 8 to 8.1 and now again on Windows 10 and could not determine where it came from. Recently I've realized it seems to start after I install ObjectDock but I cant be sure. However, I dont have many always running programs. I keep my startup programs as lean as possible. So I'm on a clean OS install with all of my normal programs and zero stardock software. Two days so far, no error. In a few days I'll put OD back on and see if the error starts. If i'm right, then OD is in bad need of a refresh because this on top of the persisting performance issues that have come out of nowhere is a bit tiresome. If there was a OD alternative I would switch to that in a heartbeat. ObjectDock and Deskscapes are the only remaining products I use actively.

Hi all....

I was also having this very annoying problem since changing to Windows 10.

My solution is to go to.... ObjectDock settings.

then select Troubleshooting options.

then UnSelect the six option boxes.

This has worked perfectly for me.

You can try unselecting each option in turn until the problem

returns. I didn't bother as it was running fine again.

I FINALLY caught the error in a picture. It didn't start happening until OD was installed. It goes back to Windowe 8.1 days so it's not a Windows 10 only sudden occurrence. Took me a bit because some days it won't happen and then when it does it flashes by so fast I miss it. It ALMOST got away from me this time as you can see:

The solution I got from support was to reinstall.  Haven't done that yet, but tried your solution first.  For me checking "Temporarily disable Objectdock's taskbar ability" eliminated the lag/slowdown.  But I've had two instances on reboot where OD defaulted to first install configurations, losing all my customizations.  Restoring the four ini files from backups fixed that but obviously something continues to be wrong.  Will try fresh install next but I'm thinking that's not going to fix it.

Also, I have linked this, along with my slowdown issues to iTunes. With one or the other installed no errors occur and, in the case of OD only being installed, no slowdowns. As soon as both are installed there are slowdowns upon iTunes close and on shutdown explorer throws those errors. Clearly there is a major issue given the uptick in issue reports. For me helps delete dock64.exe and dock64.dll(see it in another thread at this forum) and set compatibility run with windows7 for objectdock.exe

I have had the same problem with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.  Sometimes I have to end the process with task manager and the restart it.
