1-Dos with DesqView 386/X, Qemm386 = fastest and most stable multitasking

2-Windows 2000 Professional = most stable and secure of NT flavors yet

3-Windows XP Professional = it's a good extension of 2000 for the most part, sercurity issues abound with new ones popping up each and everyday. The intergration of the web so deeply embedded into the OS is worry some on many account. Personally Microsoft has no right to know what I run on, where I go on the Web and Whom I happen to communicate with. It is an OS, not a Chain and Ball of servitude. I should not have to sec my system against Microsoft compiling personal information on me or anyone who has an account on my system, to sell to thrid parties.

Today in fact there was an email in my personal email box which stated it was from HyperIneractive and that they had been given my name, mailing address and email address by Microsoft for some study. I think it might be from my MSDN account that it came about from, haven't checked into it yet. That doesn't really matter, they shouldn't be allowed to do so without first asking me for permission.

You know, IPlura - I still have my old copy of DesQView/X somewhere. I loved it, still do really. If you don't need R6 compatability, it works great as a little X workstation, too.

For those of you not upto snuff on a bit of history... Win XP inherits "some" of its ideas and design from OS/2 ... very short very quick notes... IBM and MS worked on OS/2 up until MS insisted upon coding the GUI into the main OS kernel IBM saw the flaw that would crash the whole system if an app had such access to the heart of an OS... they went their separate ways... NT 3.1 is OS/2 3.0 with a different name. even NT 4.0 is compatible with OS/2 progys just by copying back a single .dll that MS removed (pinball.dll) this is what windows 2000 was based on the NT kernel and XP based upon 2000... while there have been significant changes since then you can not deny MS history... but MS will

§tatic - I can't speak for XP, though I don't see why it wouldn't, but Windows 2000 will also run OS/2 console mode apps - don't forget that.

It has an OS/2 compatability layer just as it has a Win16 and DOS layer.

Too bad for Big Blue... they should have agreed to some long term royalty on anything that came out of this original arrangement... you know MS says that in called the first winNT 3.1 because of its current windows 3.xx series but at the time they were at 3.11 for work groups... hmmmm fishy... not. You can not deny the marketing genious that is MS.

Most stable and trust worthy - Windows 2000. I have used every OS and Windows 2000 is the best. Windows XP isn't too far behind but in the past 2 months that I have been using XP, it has been unstable a few times and it also seems to use a little more memory. Windows XP has a nicer appeal to it but not as stable. So my vote goes to Windows 2000.

Amiga OS rulez! It can multitask on 512K of RAM and can display 4096 colors AT THE SAME TIME!

Never tried Amiga, but back in 199- a friend of mine had an Amiga and he swore by it being best hands down on graphics.

I've wanted an SGI and the price on them has really come down, have to do a web search on Amiga and see whats up with them, they are still manufactured?
