Sort of solved it - if I set the dock to 'Show All running Windows' then the UAC Shield icon appears. This is not ideal as it means I get extra icons on the dock for each running application IN ADDITION to their icons on the dock.
Really OD ought to capture the appearance of the UAC dialog and display it on the dock like any other program.
Wizard1956 - Windows itself, using standard UI, does not permanently hide the taskbar. There may be a registry teak that does so, or can increase the delay before it pops up. I'll investigate.
