Icon Packager Problems

I was using Icon Packager and Windowblinds on Windows 8.1. I decided to upgrade to Windows 10 10074 and uninstalled WB and IP just to avoid any possible compatibility issues. Before uninstalling IP, I restored the default Windows icons. I did the Windows 10 upgrade and now I have problems. The network icon on the desktop is not the Windows 10 icon but the Windows 8/7 style icon. it shows the correct icon in IP under the default system icons but it doesn't restore the proper network icon. By no means do I like anything about the Windows 10 UI but I at least want to be able to run the default just in case. A bigger problem is that every shortcut icon system wide on my taskbar and start menu has changed to the default windows system file icon. I've tried deleting the icon cache file and rebooting and tried switching icon packages and then back the default but to no avail. I tried changing an individual icon and it told me something about it couldn't find the lnk file.

How do I restore all my shortcut icons and my system desktop icons to defaults now??

I'm having the same problem as Jorge700.

After upgrading to Windows 10, many icons in the Start Menu apear as a deafult blank document, even when the origin file has the correct icon. I've tried uninstalling IconPackager but the problem persists.

@Island Dog, I understand now that IP is not compatible with Windows 10... is there any solution to restore the correct icons?

You should also realize that currently many, many people are having icon issues with Windows 10, especially not displaying correctly in the Windows 10 (default) Start Menu. So while Icon packager may not be perfect with Windows 10 give it a chance.

I uninstalled Icon Packager and re-installed it which did correct some wrongly displayed icons in Windows 10.

If your going to 'play with IP' I would suggest finding your stored themes folder and backing those themes up that you may have added. Can't hurt and you'll definitely lose nothing

Do you guys @Stardock consider upgrading Iconpackager for windows10 oir will there be a new versio9n of IP just for Windows10?
I have asked about this severeal times but havent recieved any answer yet.

I just found this post I been knocking my brain out trying to fix mine tried everything online and here!

I guess it never dawned on me to remove Star Dock software before upgrading to Windows 10... All my icons are white tried all the deleting to refreshing and the bat file here...

You didn't answer benmanns question. Is Stardock going to upgrade Icon Packager so it will run on Windows 10?

I have one win 7 machine, two running 8.1 and one running win 10. I would really like to have my icons run properly on all my machines.

Iconpackager wasn't updated for Win 8/8.1, so it's not likely it'll get any attention for Win 10. Well that's the way it's coming across.

It's sad, really, really sad because Win 10's icons are the ugliest MS has ever dared to release as being usable. Well NOT on my desktop!

Whether there is actual news is not so much the point right now, What would be most pleasing to IP users, however, is knowing whether or not there is an intent to update it at all. At this point we have no idea, and given the lack of attention it has received over the last 3 to 4 years, it would be appreciated to know one way or the other.... as to whether we should renew our subscriptions or not.

Kind of ironic that it was an icon replacement program, Icon Do-iT! from long-defunct Moon Valley Software, that first got me interested in GUI mods nearly 20 years ago. It was the "hook", leading me ultimately to WindowBlinds back in 2001 and doing my own skinning shortly thereafter. Not to mention being an ODNT subscriber ever since.

Sad to see that aspect of GUI skinning fading away. Perhaps there are insurmountable technical reasons why SD can't (or won't) make it work on Win10, but a clear statement to that effect (or not) would be kind of them.

That has been asked over the last 4 - 5 years without a clear response either way. If there IS an intent to update, say so. If not, say so. I mean, how hard can it be? It's either yay or nay.... and a definitive answer either way would allow users to move on if not.

I wouldn't be the only person who thinks a desktop mod is incomplete without a system icon change, and I can mostly do that with IP in Win 8.1, but there has been such a negative response to MS' serving of icons in Win 10 and an immediate update to Iconpackager should be of primary concern, not a "what if".

As for it being too hard, nigh impossible, I frequent the skin galleries at devart and there are themes for XP; Win 7; Win 8; 8.1 AND Win 10 that not only change the GUI but also the icons and cursors.... yet we [Stardock customers] have been waiting for a significant update to Iconpackager since before Win 8.

I get it that Windowblinds and Start8/10are the 'in thing', but Iconpackager is a core component of ObjectDesktop and it's near inexcusable for subscribers that it has been neglected this long.

Well thanks for the answer.
Guess i will wait some more months to see if you guys upgrade IP (if even named that way again) before I go and buy something that can do it from another party, i have faith in you guys.

IconPackager is one of the main reasons I have an account here. That and WindowBlinds. It would be very disappointing to hear that StarDock is going to give up development of IP. Very disappointing indeed. It's a great(!) program.

That's not the only reason I won't upgrade to Win 10 [there's plenty of others] but it is key in my decision to stick with 8.1. How Microsoft can call that a UI [in Win 10] is beyond me... and the icons, well those are abominable, to say the least.

As for another icon changing app, well I'm looking for something suitable, given a definitive answer to future IP upgrades has not been forthcoming in some years now.

Broken icons are also a known problem on win 10. Hopefully Microsoft fixes the issues on their end when the next wave gets released. I have been using Iconpackager without any issue, maybe just lucky. The blank page icon issue is because the icon of the executable or icon does not have the 96x96 format. it is a pain, to go thru the startmenu and fix all the icon references, but can be done with icon developer. I have 100% happy icons, bar the broken Microsoft office 2016 ones... I use icon developer to fix the icons and sometimes the executable will have multiple formats on the left side of developer. these extra icons need to be removed and the missing icon sizes "added". Then simply pointing the startmenu shortcut to the new icon should fix it.
