/me needs a guru.....

As some of you may know, since I got my broadband connection I have been having trouble with my uploads to this site getting corrupted in the transfer from my computer to the Wincustomize server. Now, the strange thing is, I can send files by e-mail, or by messenger, and everything is fine. I need to talk to someone who knows broadband inside out to try and cure this as it's really becoming annoying.

Is there a website or forum where these guys hang out? Does anyone know a broadband expert who could help me? Are any of you experts in this field?

My ISP (NTLworld) have been no help at all, they said it was my fault for trying to upload big files!!! (I don't consider 128k to be a big file, do you?) and they said it's not a fault at their end, so they are not interested. I need to know if there are some settings I can adjust in my Network connection (bearing in mind that I have tried many things already with the assistance of T-Man, who has been a great help) or if its something to do with my network card or my digital set top box modem, or anything really!

I really need some help with this, pleeeeeeeze. So if any of you guys have any ideas, I will try anything!

If you need an example of what happens when I upload, check out this screenshot... https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=1&SkinID=2877 and also the zip files get corrupted and won't open after download, even though they are fine when they leave my system.

for broadband support you want to check out DSLREPORTS.com , also are you running any firewall software... and you may want to check your internet explorer settings make sure that every things is set normal... since email is done usually through a second progam , as is messenger... hope this help you....

IE is your problem! Try Tools>Options>Advanced and enable 'Use passive FTP (for firewall and DSL modem compatibility) and see if that works.

Hey Fuzzy! You know what? I just discovered that setting, and I spoke to T-Man about it just minutes ago. I asked if that was my problem, but he didn't think so. Do you think it's worth a try? will it screw anything else up if I enable it?

Shouldn't do any harm! If you are running XP you might also try uninstalling QOS packet scheduling - may not be the cause of the problem but can intefere with some protocols and does swallow 20% bandwidth. Your IE connection is definitely dropping packets somewhere.

If you are going through a proxy server I have other ideas...

I am assuming you are using DSL rather than cable. DSLreports diagnostics is good for both. I have got cable so my settings probably would not help you, though I routinely move files in excess of 5 meg with no data/packet loss (which may be part of your problem). If I can be of any assistance though feel free to drop me an email - its on my profile.

I think fuzzy may be right about the passive ftp setting, I didn't have anything specific, just make sure nothing really obvious is set wrong... like if it say dont allow upload of anything and it has an x next to it... get what I mean, and if you enable it, it won't mess anything up... but if it does, well turn it off... he he he... nothing permanent should happen...

It seems to me that the best solution to find out first if it is your fault!
Which I think it is, because of the Windows sensitivity and complexity in any settings change.
Try a new partition with fresh system, don't change anything, not even the modem driver, just put your account and provider info and sent something.
I guess, it would not be any problem and everything will be fixed!

If you get time go to www.speedguide.net and run the tcp/Ip analyzer and either cut and paste here for all to see or send it to me so I can see the numbers.Is there any way for you to get cable instead of DSL?Go to www.dslreports.com and run the Tweak Test on the tools page and save the results for us and you ISP.There may be some clues there,,please let us know.
But I got ta tell ya ,,,Ifni T-Man can't help I think It is with your routing/Dsl lousy packet loss situation.

If you're using DSL it could be faulty wiring in your telephone connection.

Dirty lines indeed!!If it is an older home the copper wiring may have deteriorated over time.Your ISP should be able to see/hear this.
You know my first shot at the broadband was with DSL and I am firmly against it.My connection was very unstable all the time,unsynched every 4 hours or so .And the best I could do,after tweaking mad,was 600 down and 98 up.Despicable service.I find it hard to use DSL and broadband in the same sentence

First of all guys, can I just say Thank You to all of you for the help and suggestions.
I had to rush off to work shortly after posting this, so don't think I was ignoring you all, I wasn't

Now, I have tried every suggestion listed above, and so far nothing has worked. I ran the Dr.TCP application from one of the above websites, and did every kind of test available. The tests suggested quite a few tweaks, and I implemented all of them, but still no luck.

All the speed tests were pretty good, more or less my advertised speed, so I can't complain there.

My Rwin number was very high, it was suggested I set it between 5840 and 16060. I did that.

I also set the MTU of my LAN card to 1500 (also suggested)

I enabled the passive ftp thing in Internet Options.

All my cables and phone lines are brand new, inside and outside.

I need to know how to uninstall QOS Packet scheduling (Fuzzy?) And will it wreck anything else if I do?

I am certain that it's just a setting somewhere, and I will find the damn thing!
Has anyone ever heard about this problem before, corrupted uploads etc?

No, I just tested everything again, after making all the above changes, and everything came out "Looking good".

Hello BoXXi... I think that its obvious the problem lies with in IE (seeing as your IM and Email don't corrupt files it's not likely to be your ISP, but could be new software installed for your ISP.) if you are running a ME 98 or 95

try selecting remove from the add remove programs then you will get an option to run a repair of IE select this option and reboot. If your OS is XP open the Run dialog and enter "sfc /scannow" this will do a system file check including IE reboot and hopefully this will have fixed your issue.

Hey BoXXi one more thing if the repair does not do the trick... , you can try a reinstall: however if your on XP it won't let you reinstall IE6 you need to make the following edit to your registry... if your comfortable doing so... remember to always backup your registry.

Start the Registry Editor
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Active Setup \ Installed Components \ {89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}
right-click the IsInstalled value, and then click Modify
Change the value data, from 1 to 0
Close the registry editor
Download and install Internet Explorer 6. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.asp

STATIC: I am running XP (home). I have tried entering sfc/scannow and it doesn't work! I even tried it with a backward slash \ "with quotes" without quotes, I even tried it with just one "n". Are you sure about that file address? I would like to uninstall and re-install IE6, but I'm noy too happy editing the registry, this is a brand new system with lots of stuff that I would hate to lose!! Any more ideas?

BoXXi, you need to find out first if the problem lies with Internet Explorer or not. I strongly suggest you try uploading with another browser such as Netscape, Opera or Mozilla. If it works, then you WILL know the problem is with IE.
