NOT Compatible with windows 8.1 x64 with resolution 1920*1080

hi there,

  I purchased WindowFX and intalled it on my notebook on windows 8.1 64bit Pro, but WindowFX does NOT works very well.

but it SHOULD looks like this below:

did you see that?

there should be something below the "check for updates now..." , but it can NOT shows that on my notebook with windows 8.1 64bit .

You appear to have something on your machine which is messing with OS dpi settings.

Did you change your dialog font and what dpi are you using?

Also if not using 100% dpi, have you applied any hacks which give you XP style dpi scaling on Windows 8.1?

i'm using the 100% DPI , and  i tried 125% dpi which marked the default, but it did NOT work at all.   all of the settings did NOT work!

 

I'm NOT suffer any hacks on my computer and i tried the other two PCs with Windows 8.1 64bit , all of the 3 computers have the SAME issue!

 

but when i installed  on any PC with windows 7, it works very well, no matter on 32bit or 64bit or 100% dpi or 125% dpi.

 

DID YOU HAVE TRIED INSTALL THE SOFTWARE ON YOUR OWN COMPUTER FOR TEST?????????

Neil is the main developer for the software. He has no doubt used it on several computers.

might be related to the user's locale (my guess is zh-CN). the use of non-Windows-standard interfaces (kinda seems like Stardock wants to avoid it's progams being skinned by WindowBlinds) might be problematic on non-Latin locales.

It could be something odd about the locale and a dialog font.  For dialog layout the font MS Sans Serif point size 8 is used.  It may be this is being substituted on that machine for some reason.  If you press Winkey + R and type fonts and press enter you should get the fonts window.  Is MS Sans Serif listed?  If so double click on it.  Do you get a very blocky font at larger sizes?

It is obvious from the screenshot that things are not stock from Microsoft though as you have very thin window frames and a shadow on the window frame.  What did you use to change these?

The check for updates button has been resized which indicates something resized the internal dialog which is the tab contents, but nothing else which is why you end up with the mess.

I will ask QA to try Chinese installs just in case during the next week, but as of right now I am unaware of any WindowFX dialog sizing issues on any version of Windows.  It should work just fine on out of the box installs of Windows.  Before originally replying I actually double checked on Windows 8.1 with 100 and 125% dpi to be sure.

The padding isn't off here, the entire dialog has been resized by a very large amount.

When creating apps you must never pick Segoe UI as the dialog font as it would cause all sorts of trouble on older OSes.

The dialog font is NOT the font used on the controls in that dialog.  As they are custom controls they all use their own font.  The dialog font is the font used by the OS to size the dialog and would be the default font on any control unless overridden.

Changing the dialog font to say courier would make the controls all wider, but the fonts you see would be the same.  Likewise a larger font would make the controls bigger and spaced out further, but the text you see would remain the same size and font.

yes! I am a chinese user. is this only happened to chinese users becaues of not a latin locale? if so, any solution to solve this?
