bigronny...
When you create a work, whether it is uploaded anywhere or not, it has an inherent copyright.
When uploaded to a site, a script may include '© bigronny', but that is simply a courtesy thing.
With the '©' or without, or with your signature or without, makes no difference.
All you need to be able to show is verification that the work is yours....by date or perhaps 'work in progress' pics.
99 times out of 100, who is the ripper and who is the 'rippee' is easy to determine, even without that....
A good trick is still to 'sign' your work for 2 reasons.
1. Anyone who has your work already will be able to 'know' it is one of yours....[I have a lot of walls with no idea whose they are].
2. Many rippers are so inept that even blanking a signature is beyond them and can be seen for what it is.
BoXXi's ripper on DA also ripped 7thsign here, and one of his walls still had 7thsign's name on it.....really wasn't hard to show as a rip...
IF you put a sig on your work, make it VERY unobtrusive so it does not 'ruin' the wall.
If a problem arises with a rip we will look VERY closely at the walls to attempt to find evidence of tampering...pixel by pixel if needed.
As baker said, we do make a great deal of effort to police property theft/forgery.
In the case of LilMegz97, who cross-ripped both to Wincustomize and Devart, he was exiled here by BoXXi [poetic justice], and my policy violation notification at DA came back from Reality Squared as that he'd been banned there as well.
It is always a MAJOR DRAMA when it is yourself who becomes the target of a ripper, but bear in mind that this is happening to someone, somewhere ALL THE TIME, and it is up to all of us to do as much as we can to help put an end to it.
Unfortunately, summary execution isn't an option, but all that is needed is for people to keep their eyes open, and report rips as and when they are found.
If you publicly report it, be aware that sometimes people get it wrong, and it isn't a rip, so try to keep things cordial and factual.
Nothing is gained by public flaming or emotional invective...
