WBVISTA.EXE is it still used?

source of unwanted sounds

For months I have been searching on and off for the source of some Windows sounds. Going through sounds and choose a theme without sound didn't work, I told Window Blinds not to use skin sounds, every where I could find something I turned it off. Now it is Christmas and I have my favorite widgets, gadget, and music running I don't want a noise when I close a window. Through reading on the web someone pointed out that individual items sounds can be turned off using the mixer that is accessed through the tray volume control. So with hope I went there and turning off the System Sounds didn't work. BUT there was wbvista in the mixed too. I muted it and the sounds were gone. The gadget sounds still work happily. There is one problem though, it keeps un-muting.

 

The question is, is wbvista.exe even still used? Who knows how long it has been on my machine. It could possibly be there as long as I have owned the software.

Well, I just did a registry search and a search of my hard drive on Windows 7 X64 and cannot find WBVISTA.EXE anywhere on my system. So what it is doing on your system, and what it has to do with system sounds, is beyond me.

Have you run Vista at any time on your machine? I searched mine, Win7 x64, and found nothing. See if you can open the file location where wbvista.exe is. If its in the Windowblinds folder, C:/ProgramFiles(x64)/Stardock/Windowblinds, then its probably safe to delete it. But I'd wait on that for a more comprehensive answer.

On a side note, after bing in the sound mixer list for several days, it is not any more. Maybe turning off skin sounds in WindowBlinds caused it to stay unloaded.

It was Vista 64 Professional or whatever they called their high-end. I probably did an install over the existing OS. (Win 7 64 Ultimate)

I checked in Task Manager>Processes and neither VistaSrv.exe or wbvista.exe are listed. Those could be left overs from the new install.

Task manager claims they are actually using resources.Version 7.4 here windows 7 64

Windowblinds 7.4? Is that what you're using. If so you need to update to 8.02

If using the WB 7 version, you'll see wbvista.exe. It was removed in the version 8.xx releases. I may be wrong, but I'm sure some of you who have version 7.xx can verify.

Yes, wbvista.exe will be on the 7 version of WB.  I too have not yet graduated to 8....and it's there...

This cute little list doesn't mention the naughty file.

Another thing I discovered yesterday. When I rebooted the file was no longer in my sound mixed. After I ran a couple youtube videos it showed up again. I had to mute my computer to ignore it. So much for listening to Christmas music. It's OK, I rarely turn the volume on, but I can tell you, it never used to do this. Youtube or not.

It does it when there is only one monitor as well.

 

I tried something very unique, I unloaded WB. The one in the mixer went away (and I forgot to use the task manager to see if that one went away as well, I bet it did)
