Nvidia GPU control panel wont show

drivers are installed

I have a GT 670 xx , i5 yada. I cannot get the Nvidia GPU control panel to appear on my PC. Card runs fine. Selecting hidden icons, or right clicking the desktop, or going to start button, or the PC control panel (and search) all show the icon for the GPU ctrl panel. When i select any of these, I get a brief bust Icon at mouse pointer (the circle chasing its tail). Then nothing.

I tried downloading get force experience, but it says even when I install as administrator, that its not an 32 bit application. ROFL.

I tried to do an anto search for driver on the Nvidia website, which would automatically download the GPU control panel, but hassles with Java keep blocking. I have installed java several times, as admion istrator, and permitted it free reign, (and will turn that off as soon as nvidia finishes its scan. Just won't Java install fully. All I want to do is access the Nvidia GPU control panel on my PC. I hate java (too may vulnerabilities).

i have gone thru the get force FAQ and help files. nada. Anyone a guru on this area? Helpful suggestions or even a prognosis?

Have you tried to reinstall your video drivers. uninstall first then reinstall

Try right clicking and selecting control panel that way.

Kill the explorer task then launch a new explorer task from task manager.

Try rebooting and close any apps you arent using.

Make sure the window is not below the screen. I tend to rearrange my windows and sometimes the window is off the screen.

Do you have the icon in your system tray

If so do as above. Right click and select control panel.

card runs fine? been trying to get the gpu control panel from the desktop. Tried re-installing the driver (to get the control panle, but the search won't let me do it without java, and it says yada not on a 32 bit sys (i'm on a 64 bit... ) so kinda lost...

then get the 64bit version of java or better still manually download & install the latest software for the gpu

I have installed java... but at the nvidia site it says I dont have java .. I think idiscovered the issue. I have 'no scrip' installed. Usually I can tell it to 'allow all temporally' and the page with continue. Doesn't work at the nvidia site. Been trying to uninstall no script... but even revo uninstaller cannot find it on my system to uninstall it. Maybe its a browser add on - so 'hides' in the browser - still working on it.... thanks all....

yes doing a manula download of the driver... never did this before... will be intersting

Your Java maybe installed but disabled. Check your browser documentation. You should also check in Control Panel > Programs.

yes, I did enable java.. and downloaded the driver. However, when i try to install the driver - it throws an error dialog box " % is not a valid 32 bit ..." My PC runs windows 7 64 bit. Why would the nvivdia driver for a getforce 670 require a 32 bit sys? Confused I am. The card runs fine.. i just want to adjust a few settings. All i really want to do is to be able to access the GPU control panel. Reinstalling Nvidia driver also restores the GPU control panel (my goal). the require 32 bit sys must be an error...

There is the most current NVidia driver for 64 bit windows 7 and 8. I have the same problem with the NVidia site even though I do have java installed and enabled.

Not sure if it matters but there is a 64 and 32 bit version of Java. Make sure your system properties show 64 bit. Otherwise, contact Nvidia.

@redneckdude thx for driver url. My only remaining question, then, is, do I really need to uninstall the old driver? Some places say one doesn't need to, others say one does? Best place for instructions on best practice re nvidia drivers on an i5 PC?

It's recommend you remove old drivers, however, the new NVidia uninstallers have an option to take care of that for you.

If you don't have a 3D monitor, you won't need the 3D driver. You can opt out of it.

I would pass on the updater as well, only update when you want/need to.

As Jafo will tell you, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." So I always pass on the updater.

But then, if you have any problems with Deskscapes, the first thing support will tell you is to update your drivers. Go figger.

Thanks redneckdude... installer that allows a 'clean instal' auto uninstalls old driver. Cool. Pass on updater? Definitely - I would have anyway as i agree with jafo on that issue. Desk scapes - I don't use. Use standard win 7 desktop with fences. Thanks again, all.
