The problem is Doc, it just reboots without even asking. There should be a prompt asking you if you want to reboot now or not. In this persons case they could have said no to the first two installations about rebooting, and yes to the final one. Also, a lot of people are not technically savvy enough to know how to end processes, and the names of the processes in some cases are cryptic enough that you do not even know what it is.
