Does a flyout menu docklet revert to a standard folder dock item (with "Show folder in a menu") selected once a folder contains a certain number of folders and or files?

I have a music collection folder with 6,766 Files, 396 Folders that won't open as a flyout menu.  Instead, it opens as a menu of folders.  A second music folder, with 6,588 Files, 1,197 Folders exhibits the same behavior.  In a different flyout menu docklet, other folders with fewer items show correctly.
