I’ve been working with DesktopX for a couple of months now and I’ve completed a new object that I think is rather useful. Here’s the scoop.
Last month I took some vacation time to Southern California where all I had to work with was a Mac installed with OS 8.6. So, when I came back from my vacation I was really looking forward to working with Windows again, but I found that there was one component of the Mac system that I found personally appealing, the Control Strip. Maybe it’s an ancient component of the Mac operating systems (now discontinued in OSX and Jag, as far as I know), but its functionality works for me. Anyway, like I said, I create objects and themes with DesktopX, that provide enhanced usability and functionality, and I have faithfully re-created the Mac Control Strip, named Sidebar. I know this works fine for me and I wanted to bring it to the wincustomize.com database and share it with whoever wants to have a little slice of Mac with their Windows. Recently, I submitted Sidebar (twice – 1.0 and a few days later 1.2 which looked prettier), however it seems that the wincustomize.com admins rejected both times as it did not appear in the DesktopX section.
So, to get to the point…
I wonder if it was rejected because it looks and feels too much like the Mac Control Strip, and wincustomize.com doesn’t want to be held responsible for it. That would be my guess, however there are dozens of themes available for DesktopX and other apps that faithfully re-create whole Mac environments so I’m not entirely convinced on those grounds unless…
It was rejected because Sidebar didn’t include written permission from apple. If its permission the admins want, then how would I go about getting it or what part of Apple should I apply my request?
That’s about it. I just thought I’d ask because I think this object lends a little bit of Mac-style functionality to Windows (or other environments like the Final Fantasy theme, hehe). I enjoy using it on my desktop, and I think others might too.
