How sad is this? Jean Stapleton who played Edith Bunker in "All in the Family" has passed away at age 90.
She only gained stardom at age 50, and "All in the Family" took months to catch on.

With her high-pitched voice, addled enthusiasm and big heart, Edith became a more important character than Lear had imagined.
