Another Whirl

Well, I just got Object Desktop and I love what can be done with it. I figured the best way to learn how to use it would be to just start tearing into it at random. My bad. I have officially trashed my computer. Any way I can get back to the original Windows XP desktop so I can start over again? Also, any links to some literature on how to use this stuff would be bonus. Thanks.

Which app did you run when you lost your desktop? DesktopX? WB? If you uninstall the app from the component manager it should return your system to a recognizable state... Then you can reinstall the app and just don't run it untill you've found the instructions...

There are a bunch of good tutorials linked from the Stardock site.

Also... try reading the help files in each app's folder. That should be enough info to get you going...

Heh, well, I was kinda running EVERYTHING. WB, DesktopX, WinStyles, pretty much anything and everything. I DLed a bunch of themes and files for everything listed on this site and got so caught up in the moment that I went all Drunken Ninja-style and started switching everything around. You know, a dab of WB here, some object bar there, and just a pinch of WinStyles everywhere. Well, I lost track of everything I mutilated and can't get back to the beginning. I've tried unloading everything and even did a system restore. The @#$%^&-up thing is that even though I did a system restore back to when I didn't even have these things installed, it was still screwed. I can't get my original XP back up so I can screw it up again. Well, thanks for the info on tutorials and what-not. At least I've almost learned my lesson. Not quite though.

I did the same thing but somehow managed to recover and am using almost everthing except Litestep.Be very careful with Litestep.also make sure your not running an active desktop.i.e.,hidden icons.That is what kept shutting me down.try to start slow with winowsblinds and work your way thru the other options but try to keep track of where you are.Many themes will have you looking hard for your favoriye apps but they are there.in desktopx it is a right click.

also,go to your start manager and make sure these things are not loading with your boots.get them out of startup until you have properly configured.After a system restore I would think that would have happened,but in my case the programs were starting with boot and an active desktop.so hello frozen Xp.I uninstalled everything and re-installed everything and started very slowly that time.I hat to hear your machine is whakky!!

Score. I forgot about LiteStep. Uninstalled that and took a few things off my Startup list and everything is disco. Now I can go all Frankenstein on my computer again. Guess I should read up on LiteStep too. Thanks.

fantastic!!Most of what ya got there will work with eachother,desktopx,winowsblinds,cursorxp,objectbar.But Litestep is not as easy.When you get a theme you dig and want to stick with fer a while then its safe to have start with a boot.But do watch out fer the conflicts,they will freeze yer machine.Many who answer posts here are very good at what they do but I'm afraid they are at a level far above me and usually speak in terms I have trouble understanding.All that aside it's great to hear your machine is working.I think you will have lots-o-fun with all this.I sure am.

Oh yeah,and about Litestep.If your anything like me,you can read all you want about it but I have yet to understand much.It's like it was written by the government.It makes sense to those new to this.It is not as easy as clickin away at all!!It will cause you downtime if yer not careful.Try to make sure nothing is starting with boot if yer gonna run Litestep.May gawd help ya ifn ya do.
