ok feline.. just a taste
i rented a small moving truck on 3 separate occasions. the first time, they made an 'exception' and let me have it late in the day even though it was supposed to go out early the next morning. when we tried to unload it the next morning in time to get it checked back in, our new garage door refused to open, even with the little emergency pull cord. workmen eventually arrived and finally, after sliding things under a 2 foot gap for 45 minutes, had to remove the door. we got the truck back 3 hrs late.
we had moved everything in it we 'thought' wouldn't fit in our explorer. then my wife had to take the explorer on an unexpected trip to illinois, leaving me with a small 2 door. i got the truck [happened to be the same one] again. a couple hours before i had to have it back in, i could see i wasn't going to have time to unload it, take it back in, and get my car from their rental office before i had to be at a job interview. i unloaded it, but then had to call and arrange to keep it another day. then i went to the interview wearing black cowboy boots [the closest thing to dress shoes i could find] and driving a uhaul.
i moved more in the truck that night, and turned it in the next morning. i was supposed to have it there by 830 sharp! i was there at 815. they arrived at the office at 940 because the starter went out in their car. soon after, i found several very large things in our old basement that had no hope of fitting in the car. i called the next morning and got the truck again. yes.. the same truck. i filled it again, all 14 feet by myself, and emptied it. our new garage was now packed to the ceiling.
i turned the truck in for the last time, now saying a fond farewell to my old friend with the jazz player on the side. the owner of the rental office then showed me photos of her at a star trek convention, with another woman in green body paint, dressed as the orion slave girl who tried to seduce captain pike for the talosians. she was holding her by a leash, and told me how the actor who played quark on deep space 9 had tried to accept the woman as a gift at a convention party. she said she'd like me to join their star trek group, and frankly i'm considering it.
