Hi All -
I'm running with four monitors and I'd like to have the same exact object dock on each one. I know I could just create each dock one at a time and place them on the four monitors, but that is labor intensive. I have tried editing the CurrentTheme.ini file and basically copying the configuration from dock 1 to dock 2, and (hopefully) editing everything correctly, but I'm running into problems.
Here's more details:
- First, I'm using objecdock plus 2
- I created a zoomed dock using the objectdock setting dialog and put a lot of stuff on it. I placed this on one of my monitors.
- Then I created a second zoomed dock, again using the objectdock settings dialog. I put this on a different monitor. But I left it with just the 3 default icons that it was created with.
- I then unloaded object dock, and went into E:\User Profiles\Jeff\AppData\Local\Stardock\ObjectDockPlus\CurrentTheme.ini (my user profiles are not in the default location)
- In there, I copied all of the settings labeled with a "1" and overwrote the settings labeled with a "2". For the copied settings, I then went and did a find and replace for all "Item(1" strings and replaced them with "Item(2". I also replaced Settings1 with Settings2 and I think there was one other section where I changed 1 to 2.
- I saved and fired objectdoc up. The original dock was fine. The second dock had taken on all appearances of the the original dock except that it had not added any of its icons except that the second dock's three default icons had been replaced with the first three icons from the original dock.
So it seems that the new dock read and used the settings I copied from the original dock, except that it only applied them to existing icons. It did not go and add the additional icons to the dock. To be specific, the new doc had three default icons. Once I copied over the settings from the original dock, those three default icons had been changed to the first three icons on the original dock, but unfortunately none of the other icons from the original doc were added. It seems like this method cannot create icons that weren't already there.
Any ideas on how to make this work? I can't even seem to find any other config files that are applicable.
Thanks,
Jeff
An update:
I managed to get around my problem by populating each of the copied docs with the correct number of icons and separators and docklets. I just created blanks ones and then left them as was. They were replaced with real icons when I copied the settings over. While doing this, I noticed a setting that I may have missed changing: the GroupXCount in the SettingX section. I may not have changed that to the correct number when copying the settings, and that may have been why the copied docs were not adding icons. I'm not going to test that now, though!
Ultimately, it'd be nice to see support for this. A way to create a single doc and then display multiple instances of it. That way, if you changed one doc, they'd all change. It seems like this would be useful to people who run multiple monitor set ups.
