Fences is possibly our most popular program. Conceived and developed by long-time Stardockian, Jeff Bargmann (who also wrote ObjectDock), the new version isn’t just a point upgrade. It really takes the Fences concept to the next level.
Let me illustrate it with 3 main points (I’m assuming you’re already familiar with it as it’s got several million users already):
- Now you can create a fence that points to a folder. This is a pretty huge deal for people (like me), that have a lot of special folders on their network that they regularly access (see screenshot below as an example).
- You can now have “pages” of Fences. That’s where you grab the left or right side of the screen and drag it to reveal another set of fences. So my main desktop is pretty clean. But then I have a second page that I bring on when I need to get to my myriad of tools, files files, etc.
- There’s a new display option for how items in a fence are displayed (see screenshot). You can do this on a fence by fence basis.
The original Fences was a $19.95 program to buy the full version. But because we think Fences 2 is so compelling, we’ve dropped its price in half. I should also mention it runs on Windows 8 (that’s where I’m running it) in case anyone asks.
