Figured out how to get FF up and running, I think. But now I'm trying to figure out why when I click on a folder it fails to open.

It would appear that Linux just may well be getting some unexpectant assistance from MS in the form of Windows 8.
It was a good read. I also read some of the comments and they're pretty informative. I think I'm gonna like this newbie.
Until I can easily assign the thumb button on my Logitech mouse to act as a middle mouse click, I'll stick to Windows as my main OS.
