I installed Stardock Logon Studio on my Vista x64 HP Laptop with fingerprint reader software (Digital Persona). Upon completion, I noticed that the fingerprint reader icon no longer displayed status information below the fingerprint icon. Also, when I would log on, a Logon User Process error would occur.
The Event Viewer for Windows Applications revealed this error:
Faulting application LogonUI.exe, version 6.0.6001.18000, time stamp 0x4791960d, faulting module authui.dll, version 6.0.6002.18005, time stamp 0x49e040d2, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0000000000037ef7, process id 0x2c4, application start time 0x01cd30bdaf7c7608.
It is very uncomfortable to find the system slightly mangled like this, and it persists upon each reboot or log-off/on. But what is worse is that I cannot logon EXCEPT by using the fingerprint reader. Attempts to logon by keyboard, clicking on a user icon, results in the screen refreshing and returning to a locked state.
Once I uninstalled the Digital Persona software (which I've been using without incident for 3 years until Stardock was installed), the logon by keyboard would work.
Apparently there was another user with a similar problem, also running an HP laptop with fingerprint reader, who described very much the same thing after installing the Bootskin. So it would appear that this conflict is not a one-off. That user had other problems as well, but at least the symptoms showed quite the same with the same scenario.
Is this a known issue with Stardock boot/logon windows customization software? Is there any workaround? Or is there simply no choice but to avoid this software?
