Frogboy - Kind of interesting that the comments on me have tended to be that they imagined me older, fatter, and uglier. I fear that speaks poorly of my on-line persona.
why?
look at it this way, people thought enough of you to think about what you actually looked like. surely better than being ignored?
or to aproach from another side, you speak as an older male, and given the "social" image of the "average" internet adict, what other basic template do people have to work from?
personally this is one thing i *like* about this (and other places) on the net. people only see your words, so arent distracted by your body or fashon sence (more a lack of one on my part really).
Frogboy - But seriously, our virtual self really often is different than how we are in "real life".
of course "we seem" different on line, since you are much free'er to be your self, without all the issues of presumption based on what you look / seem like.
also, you get to start with a clean slate. by the time you have become an adult, a lot of the people you meet aready think they know lots about you. combined with your "reputation" this provides a social straighjacket that you are supposed to exist within.
after all, half the threads here go completely off the wall, but if you make loads of off the wall comments in "real life" people think you are strange, and thus social preasure works to surpress that side of you. where as here people actively encourage it, and do their best to help out
Frogboy - I feel like I "know" Paxx and Treetog and Alexandrie and many of the rest of you as well as I know anyone. Yet I've never actually met any of you let alone seen you really other than these pictures.
i thought that Alexandrie worked for Stardock.
perhaps foolishly i concluded from this that she worked at the same office as you did, so you would see her.
you dont spend all your time in your office, so never actually see the other people in the flesh do you? there are still people where i work i dont recognise, but then, i have only been here 4 years, and there are *loads* of them, at least 40!
Frogboy - I miss some of the people on those pages who haven't been around much lately, like China and Fear of Fours, and Tananda, etc.
so true
perhaps we should send out a search party? better attach a long rope to them first though, otherwise they might not return either
