WASHINGTON — The White House is making it easier for people to press the federal government to act.

It is bringing that constitutional right to petition one's government into the digital age with a webpage, "We the People," where people can create and sign petitions seeking the government's action on a range of issues.

An official response is guaranteed for any petition that draws enough signatures — 5,000 names within 30 days — after it is reviewed by staff and the appropriate policy experts within the Obama administration.

The White House announced the new page, http://www.whitehouse.gov/wethepeople, on Thursday.

So they don't have to act on a petition, just have a look and then respond to it. It's a alright idea ... but I think this is government trying to make the people feel like they are part of governance, I will be surprised if they take anything on. Polling must be down ...

I'm sure they'll be the only ones.

Guess they're getting tired of hitting the "Delete" on the individual emails.

And people are really supposed to believe this will make things better? Free beer. Panem et circenses.

By the way, I never understood why if one person advocates a good, logical, legal and non-harmful issue why an additional 4,999 (random choice) would make it more worthy "An official response". Stupid me. It's all about voting blocks.  

The "Official response" will probably end up "We'll look into that and get back to you." 

Unless you're a facultative anaerobe, I wouldn't advise holding your breath.
