Doctor...who ??

It´s a love or hate kinda thing

I just finished watching the whole series of Doctor Who (The latest) And it was a Brilliant Finale episode...

I´m writing this because I have a feeling there are quite alot of you skinners and other semi put together people that have seen it (old or new) And I really would like to hear what you think about the phenomenon that is "Doctor Who"

It almost calls for a blind !  Hmmm....  

-This thread could also work as a get together reminiscing Good sci-fi ? .....Whatever, needed 2 Just say I LOVE The Doctor !!

Doctor Who is a passion I share with my youngest son -- We've watched all of the episodes of Doctor Who together, starting with the Ninth Doctor (Christopher Eccleston); we've watched all the episodes of Torchwood (including the newest one that came out a few days ago). 


I've toyed with the idea of devoting a Windowblind to The Doctor, but I don't think my skills are where I want them to be yet to really give it the sort of love it deserves.  Doctor Who is the closest thing I have to holding something sacred, and I'm just not willing to touch it yet. 

So what was your favorite episode?  My favorite was "Blink" where they introduced the weeping angels.  Weeping Angel is my favorite menace of The Doctor.

Never watched Doctor Who but I am into good sci-fi. See if this rings a bell.  Anne Francis, Robbie the Robot, ID, Richard Anderson, Krell...okay that's enough. Probably gave it away with that last one. lol

And how coincidential wasn´t THAT Karen ?? WE both like that stuff & Torchwood too ! Captain Jack SO Hardstyle of a guy (although I must admit I had a little bita´ trouble with him being...Both sides of the coin if you know what I.....Favourite "Who" episode, let me see... SO many... I loved the time of angels and also The empty child -Real creepy ! Cool I got response on the thread. !!!

That's oldy moldy stuff you've mentioned there, Uvah.  I don't know if I'd call that good--it's fun to watch and laugh over (much like watching Reefer Madness); actually, I don't even know if I'd call Doctor Who, GOOD sci-fi.  GOOD Sci-Fi, for me, are things like The Matrix, Inception, Strange Days, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, District 9 and (just watched recently) Source Code.  And really, watching it isn't NEAR as enjoyable as reading it -- Heinlein, Philip K Dick, Ray Bradbury...good stuff.

So you´re mostly into Older sci-fi...Forbidden planet huh ?? lol -Personally I Thought S G U Was the best of the stargate productions....All that running in the woods in the first Stargate series didn´t do it for me...

Forbidden Planet is a sci-fi classic. Like Day of the Triffids, The Thing, etc. etc.

BTW...Heinlein, Robert H. and Ray Bradbury, Isaac Asimov, they are among the greatest sci-fi writers. I Robot, Time Enough for Love, excellent stories.

You will have to watch it.

It was the episode to finish off the series so tie up with what had gone before.

I thought one of the best stories in the Dr. Who and I have watch since the start of Dr. Who way back in time.

It's not that I don't have my guilty pleasures when it comes to older sci-fi -- I have my favorite trio from the 70s; Soylent Green, Omega Man, and Logan's Run, and of course, there was the whole series of Planet of the Apes.  It's kind of cheesy watching them now, but I still love them.

Agree. I just got into Doctor Who with the new guy. Doubt I'll watch all the other seasons, but it's been fun, and I'm looking forward to the rest. More like science-fantasy.

Long live Forbidden Planet!!! And may they never remake it.  I hated The Day the Earth Stood Still remake.

I started watching Doctor Who back in the 60's with William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton, then Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker.  The latter 2 were my favourite Dr Who's of all time.  I haven't watched it much of late, though I may tune into it more now I've been reminded of it again.

I haven't seen any Dr. Who since the Jon Pertwee days; I thought it was pretty hokey. However, I was a huge science fiction (books, mainly) fan. I still have a few hundred old books (quite a few Ace Doubles). My favourite authors are A.E. Van Vogt, Robert Heinlein, Jack Williamson, Keith Laumer (hilarious; Retief, the galactic diplomat), and a few others. Has anybody heard of/read The Rose (?) by Charles Harness?

I tried watching it back in the Tom Baker days and thought it was pretty hokey, too -- my kid sister got me to watch the newer (2000's) version and it's not that hokey anymore.  Especially this last doctor (who I wasn't real fond of at first, because I REALLY liked David Tennant), and this last season (since they've decided to retire the Daleks), as Andrew said (and as the Doctor would say) "BRILLIANT!"
