That and the recent Icelandic eruption, plus recent subterranean thermal activity in the Pacific is the greatest cause of the oceans warming and a global rise in temperatures.  Other causes for global warming are sunspots and other natural occurrences which have appeared throughout history.  However, those with vested interests [gouging, money grabbing, greedy bastards] will have you believe otherwise.

I saw the thermal fields and volcanoes just outside of Rotarua in New Zealand a few years back, and the temperatures were at least 5c above those in town and elsewhere on the North island.  Temperatures near the vents [where you could actually look in and see the lava] were even higher, so imagine the massive fluctuations experienced during and after a volcanic eruption.

The constant heat generated in one small volcanic eruption/earthquake is far, far greater than anything mankind can produce, yet the global warming pundits [twits] keep pushing the "we gotta keep upping prices to combat it" hardline.  Australian electricity prices have more than quadrupled in the last 3 years, on the back of this global warming crap, and it really pisses me off to read that the CEO's all collected 12 - 15% increases on their $1,000,000 p/a salaries each time power went up, not to mention accountants, lawyers, consultants and public relations people getting huge sums [we're talking several millions here] to cover their greedy arses.

Sorry, Uvah, for raining on your thread with a global warming rant, but when I see events like this and know what those fanatic global warming bastards are doing to gouge people who can least afford it [power and gas disconnections in Oz have increased six-fold in the last 3 years due to people not being able to pay], it grieves me intensely.

I'm not saying the human race shouldn't clean up its act... of course it should,  However, if politicians, energy producers, industrialists and bankers had given a shit about the planet's ecology in the first place, they would have been using best/better practices long ago, rather than waiting for El Nino and La Nina to come along to warm things up a little and tell everyone else they gotta pay for cleaner practices and the clean up.

These weather phenomena have been occurring since the beginning of recorded time, so they are nothing new and we should be treating them for what they really are.... NATURAL occurrences that have been occurring since long long before the industrial age.

Oh, and Jafo, do you not find it extremely offensive to be paying 300% - 400% more for your electricity in just the last 4 - 5 years, only to have the CEO's claim 15% + pay rises to their million + salaries at every increase... that billions are spent each year on accountants, lawyers and spin doctors to sell these "necessary rises" to the public???

In just 12 months I am paying approximately $160 extra on my quarterly power bill, yet I am using MUCH LESS power than I did for the corresponding period for 2010...  EVERYTHING {bar fridge and freezer] gets turned off at the wall when not in use  Now that's a whopping $640 p/a I am paying extra for power... and considering I now have gas hot water and gas stove, it's a fucking daylight robbery and a travesty.

To add insult to injury, the same company [is my gas provider as well] informed me that my gas [bottled} will cost an extra $30.00 per refill as of next quarter. That's almost $100 per week we have to find... AND eat , keep a roof over our heads, clothe ourselves, etc, etc.  I'm not destitute by any means, and there are others [mortgagees for example] who are far worse off than me, but financially I am still at the lower end of the socio-economic scale and find it harder to adjust each time the bastards dip into my somewhat limited income.

I'll tell you what, Jafo, prove to me beyond any shadow of a doubt that there ISN'T at least a 50% greed factor involved in these huge price gouges... that the money IS BEING WELL SPENT... and that the Australian populace IS GETTING VALUE for its money, and I'll eat my right arm... starting at the armpit.

I could be 'expelling' every 30 seconds and wouldn't even nudge the needle on the global warming gauge.

The reality of energy and its costings is... first you choose the easiest...which equates to the cheapest...in Australia's case that is coal, nothing else.

Then comes natural gas.

Eventually...since we have the world's largest deposits of yellow cake maybe we'll get to nuclear yet.

I grew up in that age with all the nuclear testing, the forced relocation of indigenous people just so some military wannabe could nuke the shit out of it. They don't tell the world about where all that fallout went and who was affected by it. Only now does it come to light and who'll be held accountable? No one!

Politicians, bankers, big business, the names are irrelevant... none have earned my respect... certainly NOT my trust.

As for the power/gas companies, don't give me that crock of shit that they're working in our better interests.  When it comes to profits, company agendas, upper echelon perks and customers, profit and perks come first, second and third... with customers coming up a sorry last, and then they get a consideration only because profits are zilch without them.

Crap!!!!  A recent inquiry run by one of the major TV networks current affair programmes showed that power companies invested billions in lawyers, accountants and spin doctors in 2010.... money that could/should have been invested in customer services/assets, but instead was spent to publicly sell the increases as being essential, while CEO's received pay rises worth more most workers entire lifetime salaries.  Go on, tell me that's justified.

And another thing, look at how the insurance companies are refusing to pay Qld flood victims after they've been paying for flood cover since the 74 floods.  Another case of the richest sticking it to those who can least afford it... and is even more despicable given the dire circumstances these people find themselves in through no fault of their own.

Why do I dislike these bastards so much... because I don't sit around with my head up my arse pretending they're doing us a favour.  I pay attention to the injustices and travesties they commit, and my comments are appropriate to their actions.

I just wonder what the poor bastards are going to do when we have fuck all else left to take.

I got to see Mt St. Helens erupt while out on our commercial fishing boat. It was really spectacular and quite scary! It only erupted for a short time, I feel sorry for the Japanese who have to bet hit by this for 3 days! Great video Uvah!
