Dual monitors, XP

only works on one screen.

using DeskScapes Version 3.25 full edition (not trial)

works fine, loads up fine but a few issues.

1. it will not load on both monitors, only the primary. the secondary remains black

i CAN load the snow on both oddly, but no other will load on both ive tryed maby 30 dreams.

2. there is no multiple monitor icons on the sidebar in the Desk Scapes GUI. ive seen screenshots where others have this but this option is not showing up on mine.

3. i cannot move the deskscape GUI to my other monitor. i can do so with everything else, but this program will not allow me to move it to the other monitor alone! how strange!

4. when i DO apply a dream to work, when the 2nd monitor goes black, the icons disappear.

On XP, the Dynamic dreams (very few dreams) run on both monitors, the Video dreams (most dreams) only run on the primary. "Snow" is a Dynamic dream.

While a video dream is running, you can rightclick on the destop and select "Pause Deskscapes" and that will put a stillshot of the dream on the secondary monitor. I don't know if that will restore your icons, you might try it.

I'll leave the rest of it to someone else other than to say "Yes, that's how it works on XP, my understanding is that it is XP limitations." I specifically don't know if the icon issue is "typical" or not though.

1) XP has much more limited multiple monitor 3D support than Vista and Windows 7 and only dynamic dreams (and static wallpapers with effects) can be applied to both screens on that OS. Videos are one monitor only as showing it on two would need Deskscapes to decode the videos twice.

2) This is a Windows Vista / 7 feature where you can have different dreams on each monitor. XP does not support this

3) This is by design. The preview uses Direct3D and alas the limited multiple monitor support for Direct3D shows up here too. In order to prevent poor performance we limit the configuration ui to the primary monitor only on XP.

4) Do you mean the icons disappear on the secondary screen or on both? I seem to recall the loss of the icons on the secondary screen on XP is again normal.

Unfortunately XP is a very old OS and it has many limitations compared to the newer OSes and this is why there are features provided on the other OSes which are not provided on XP.

One final difference on XP is the animation will pause automatically when the startmenu is open. This is by design.
