Suddenly all our skins have ratings. So YOUR winamp skin that you put so much work in and is getting so many downloads (it was heading for the top!) suddenly gets a 6 rating and disspaperas from most people's query results. Sunddenly your winskimp skin is getting 4 downloads a day as opposed to 80 d/ls per day, no exceptions.
EVEN THOUGH THOSE 80 PEOPLE A DAY REALLY WANT YOUR SKINS, an algorithm that couldn't hold it's own with a gnat in a game of chess is making the descision that most people don't need to see your skin, EVEN though it's a proven HIT. If your Wallpaper is in the top ten, then it gets a ten by definition. etc.
A skin on this site may be rated poorly because it lacks artisitic merit (clouds); however it may provide exactly what the customer wants on his desktop (clouds).
We gotta not screw that pooch. If the potentially most successful skin drops off the list because it's not artistic, that's a loss. We're saying: "Yes you really want that skin, but the artist's peers have determined that the skin is not artistic enough, so even though you RRREEEEEALAALLLLLLYYYYYY want it... ya can't have it.
I rated a lot of skins tonight. I think all of this is VERY COOL, and VERY USEFUL.
But I have this problem (it's an ego thing I admit):
When I have skin that is flying up the charts WITHOUT ratings, consistently, i think the work has established itself. In otherwords winampskinXX4 is responsible 1450 d/ls per day. So it don't matter if it's peer rated 3. Make sure everyone sees it because its a popular hit.
I.E. if a mod has >x d/ls show it dispite the peer rating. (Those peer raters are probably on crack at the moment... they're ususally nice fellows.)
Overall this is a GOOD thing. Just needs tweaking'
