The ghouls are out - I read more about his life than I ever knew. But the trash did not change my perception and enjoyment of his talent. He was a bit before my time, but some of his movies are among my favorites (Like Operation Petticoat).
I am glad he found peace in life. He was an entertaining actor - which is the highest praise one can give for his profession.
