WB7 for XP Pro SP3, 1280x800 display, 120dpi (120 dpi)? Firefox 3.6.8 + Roboform?

I tried WB more than a year ago, before WB7, and uninstalled it right away because it wouldn't work nicely at 120dpi (120 dpi). Can anyone say definitively that WB7 will work without problems on my laptop which has XP Pro SP3, a 1280x800 LCD display, an ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 gfx card and which I always run at 120 dpi? (If someone needs more info, I'll provide it.)

Will I have a problem using Firefox 3.6.8 and the Roboform Toolbar?

From what I remember, installing WB is a big deal and really does a number on a PC, so I'm hesitant to even try the WB7 demo.

WindowBlinds changes no system files and never has done, so installing it should not cause you any problems.

Which part had problems with the high dpi before? Was it the application itself, or was it certain skins with the startmenu?

I don't think anyone can say that about someone elses rig....too many variables. Afaik most all of SD's apps need to be run at 96dpi for the config windows to display properly. If this has changed, you should be ok with your setup.

You remember incorrectly. WindowBlinds is easy to install, easy to use and easy to remove if you don't want it, including the trial, which needs to be uninstalled before installing the paid version. It wil not "do a number" on your computer as it hacks no system files.

From what I have seen in the forums Wizard is correct about running at 120DPI. You might be able to run at a DPI greater than 96 but less than 120, you will just have try it out and see at which level it will still show the configuration windows okay.

Of course if Stardock has fixed this they will be along to let us all know.

@Neil_Banfield: It's been more than a year, but what I remember was that text and graphics in windows such as Microsoft dialog boxes were cut off on the right side. I looked at forum posts after I had the problem and saw that the older WB was not friendly to the 120dpi setting but only wanted the 96dpi setting, so I uninstalled it. I'm sticking with 120dpi.

@Wizard1956: If SD's apps need to run at 96dpi, my question is answered and I won't be using anything from Stardock since I always leave my display at 120dpi.

Because it's been a while, I may be confusing installing Windowblinds with installing Vista Transformation Pack for XP, which I also tried and which was major brain salad surgery for sure.

Well, forget it.

I downloaded the latest WB7 demo and tried it. I was willing to wrestle with font and icon issues at 120dpi (I only had 1/2 a start button with one visual style), but when I saw that Windowblinds kills Roboform in Firefox, that was the end for me.

You'll never sell WB to anyone who has Roboform until you fix this. No one in their right mind would sacrifice password strength for eye candy.

I've had robo form and windowblinds for years. Never an issue there.

I don't run at 120dpi though.

@Neil Banfield: When I select a Roboform passcard, Roboform takes me to the web site but does not enter the login information. Since I've shifted over to passwords of 12 random characters, I'm pretty reliant on Roboform. I've got the Roboform database backed up to multiple external devices and keep my PC database synced to the Roboform2Go database on a USB flash pen drive which I always carry.

I uninstalled the Windowblinds demo and Roboform is working fine. I've contacted Roboform Support to see what they say.

If you search these forums for "Roboform" I think you'll see that people have had various problems with Roboform and Windowblinds.

Windowblinds is well worth the price but I can't get a satisfactory answer about using it at 120dpi either. Before WB7 came out, I read something in a WB forum post about 120dpi support in WB7. I would have thought it'd be possible to say "yes WB7 works at 120dpi" or "no WB7 doesn't work at 120dpi" but I guess I was wrong.

My problem with Roboform was fixed by installing the latest Roboform adapter. I just directly logged in to this forum using Roboform after reinstalling WB 7. All I did was select Stardock Forums from the "Logins" drop down box in the Roboform toolbar.

It turns out that Firefox updates do NOT update the Roboform extension, even if you click Tools -> addons -> Extensions in Firefox, then click "Find Updates". You have to click the Options button under Roboform in the Extensions window, then select "Version" in the Roboform popup window, then click "Check New Version...". If the new Roboform browser window/tab reports a more recent version of Roboform than you see when you select "Adapter" in the Roboform popup window, you should download the latest version to your HD and install it. I personally chose to first uninstall the current Roboform extension from Firefox.

Note that you can have an older version of the Roboform Adapter in Firefox than the version reported by your Roboform system tray icon. I did and that's what threw me. You've got to check the Roboform version in Firefox separately. Bad design on Roboform's part, I think.

I hope this post helps other people who have problems with the Roboform toolbar in Firefox.

Anyway, if I can determine that WB 7 is usable for me at 120dpi, I'll buy it. Checking it out now.
