Why do I have to install impulse?

I bought fences pro. The only way to install it is a resource hog software impulse. I can only find fences free version installer. But why you guys forcing us to install impulse to get fences pro.

Why do I have to install impulse?

Because that is how Stardock distributes it's software/games.  It's their company, their software, their rules.

The only way to install it is a resource hog software impulse

I've had Impulse installed since beta and have never noticed it as a resource hog.  Ever.

Impulse is required only for the initial install and any updates should you choose to obtain them. Beyond that it  can be uninstalled once your software is installed. The only element of Impulse that actively runs is Impulse Now and it can be easily disabled from the preferences within the Impulse icon in the system tray.

Impulse is far from being a resource hog. it doesn't remotely resemble a resource hog.

People just like to complain over nothing.  If what little impulse uses boggs you down, I'd suggest getting more ram.

What makes you say that Impulse is a resource hog? How much of your RAM and CPU is Impulse currently utilizing? I'm downloading a game right now and it's at ~20 MB RAM and 2% CPU.

Dude, you only have to run Impulse for the 1-3 minutes it takes to get fences pro downloaded and installed, then, close Impulse and leave it closed. No resources being used whatsoever.

Sheesh, people complaining about impulse being a resource when it doesn't even need to stay running is quite amusing.

I might as well complain about photoshop being a  then seeing it is using over half my ram, but I won't!

Whether it 'watches for updates' or otherwise is besides the point.

I do not want, what I can at best politely call rubbish, installed and sitting there for no good reason.

If it cannot be removed and is needed for Fences, well, then it is part of fences?

I used the free version, like it and decide to buy the so-called Pro version.

I expect the Pro version to be delivered as was the free version - and nothing else - just like the free version they used to 'catch me' with...

I still do not understand why that has to be opt-out instead of opt-in. Maybe if it didn't install itself to run at startup without user permission/notification, then people wouldn't see it as malware or a resource hog.

Then perhaps you should learn to read the system requirements (as previously mentioned) before you made your purchase. It clearly states Impulse is required to install it, this is no secret. And also as was mentioned, you only need Impulse to install/update the software, you can easily and happily uninstall Impulse if you don't want it on there. Simple.

If you wish you can uninstall Impulse, it is not required for Fences to run, just to install. As for updates, Impulse is the only way to find and install, since you have paid for FencesPro and this includes updates ( for stand alone normally until the next major version ) how is having Impulse to find and install updates "rubbish".

Impulse does also do more than this, example, if you say had an problem with fences, by right clicking on it in Impulse you can verify the install and fix/update bad files if there is an issue.

Yeah. Impulse takes up a whopping 21.3 Mb on my machine.

The other day Impulse informed me of a fences update, quite handy.

- Perhaps writers/sellers of software should make thing more clearer.
- Perhaps writers/sellers of software should NOT show one version as free, incite you to buy a Pro version and then throw a whole new set of software progs and rules at you.

If. for every software supplier I have installed on my pc , thay also supplied their proprietary  special 'install and monitor piece of software', do you have any idea what the bottom taskbar would look like and the waste of space and resoucess?

Why can't they do like the rest and monitor updates from  within their software?

This is such a diversion from the norm, I believe it needs a very special note, advise and warning to new purchasers.

Lastly, when you purchase off a page, do you read every word....????? especially after "trailing" it???    When you install software do you read the term and condition??? et not, so give me a life buddy.'

Before we know it, they will be updated their special update software to do clandestine things on one's pc....
These guys are pulling a con - plain and simple.

You've been shown/told what you can do with Impulse after you've downloaded and installed Fences Pro.  Quit being a baby and whining about it.  Is it helping you, the whining?  Is it actually doing anything productive, the whining?  Then flipping stop already.  Baby.

Impulse used for 'just one' product may look like unwanted overkill, but it is Stardock's system for installing/updating ALL their software, along with access to [these] forums for [often] much needed assistance.

Many SD Customers/Users have significantly MORE than 'just' one SD product installed so it [Impulse] is a god-send for keeping all the software/purchases up-to-date.

If you only require the one product [Fences] then uninstall Impulse.

End Of Story.

The use of Impulse as a required installer is listed in 'system requirements' for your purchase.

Stardock cannot be blamed/held responsible for a customer's [seeming] inability to perform with an appropriate level of reading comprehension.

The mention of Impulse on Fences' home page is not hidden in the fine print. It's right there, out in the open.

Personally, if I'm spending my money on something, I tend to read up on the product. No, I don't read all the fine print, but like I said: The mention of Impulse was not in the fine print.

Personally I would also prefer it to be opt-in rather than opt-out.

Hey Jafo, Neil: in my almost 6 years here I don't remember, but maybe one of you day oners may; was there ever this much uproar/tripe about Stardock Central. ( for those who are new, Stardock Central was the download/install/update manager that Impulse replaced.)
