Hi,
I have been using the Version 2 beta of ObjectDock Plus on a quad-core notebook running Windows 7 Professional 64bit with 8GB RAM. I run in dual monitor mode with an external LCD monitor as my primary right side display and notebook display as the left display. I use the Classic Windows theme - NOT the Aero. I have never used any previous version of ObjectDock so it's possible that some of the issues I've raised above may have also been present with the prior version. But I urge that they be remedied nonetheless.
1. Make the configuration for tabbed docks be consistent with that for zoomer docks and vice versa. Specifically:
a. Make the separator in tabbed docs be just like that for zoomer docks -- i.e. a vertical line, instead of a blank space the size of an icon that takes up too much space.
b. Add alignment, distance from edge and auto-hide settings for tabbed docks. I want an auto-hidden tabbed doc to be aligned to the bottom right of my display but appearing above the regular Windows taskbar (which is also auto-hidden), just like the zoomer dock I have on the bottom left. But there's no way to currently configure either the alignment or distance from edge unless I make it floating but then I can't auto-hide it.
c. Add configuration of icon grow size as for zoomer docks. This is a cosmetic issue but I want all my docs, tabbed or zoomer to look the same when I move the mouse over the icons. I have customized the grow size in my zoomer docks, but cannot do this in the tabbed dock, which currently grows by a smaller fixed amount that what I want to see.
d. For zoomer docks, add menu item to lock icon dragging as with tabbed docks.
2. For tabbed docs, add separate alignment option for the tabs. For example, I have a tabbed doc bottom aligned right on my display. I want the tabs to also appear right aligned as well (or alternatively left-aligned), but not center-aligned, which is the fixed default currently.
3. Make it optional to cause dragging of an icon off the dock to open in the window of the application it is dropped, instead of attempting to remove the icon from the doc -- unless you are in settings mode. For example, I have many icons for web pages. Sometimes I just click on the icons to open in a new tab in Firefox. But othertimes, I want to open in an existing Firefox tab by dragging.
4. FIX: When using an auto-hidden zoomer or tabbed dock (with the regular Windows Taskbar in auto-hidden mode), moving the mouse horizontally when it is below and outside of the dock still causes visual selection and growing among the dock icons with text display. This hides the text popups from the icons under the mouse on the Windows taskbar and otherwise causes unnecessary visual distraction. (At least, this happens for me running on Windows 7 Pro 64bit with the dual display Classic configuration I described above.)
5. Make icons preserve the case sensitivity of internet urls instead of making all the characters lowercase which can cause the link to fail. Currently, if I have a URL that contains a required uppercase character, I cannot load the page successfully in my browser after clicking on the icon because the uppercase character is converted to lower case. For these situations I have to go the extra step of creating a file system shortcut for the URL and using its path for the ObjectDock icon. this is inconvenient and inconsistent because for other URLs that are not as case-sensitive, you don't have to do this.
6. Improve icon image editing:
a. Make it possible to specify a custom icon image folder that doesn't have to reside under the ObjectDoc application directory, and not necessarily in the user area under Documents and Settings either. I always want my personal configuration data reside under my own non-standard directory.
b. When browsing for icon images in an executable or DLL that contains multiple icons, show all the available icons and allow user to pick one, instead of just automatically assigning the first one in the set. In other words, make it work like the regular Windows shortcut Change Icon dialog.
c. When an icon is edited to change its image, auto-scale and otherwise convert it as needed so it fills the space on the dock. Often, when I choose the bundled icon in an application, it shows up too small in the dock and I have to make my own custom icon. Even an intrinsically small icon looks pixellated after the result of auto-scaling or conversion, I would still prefer that to seeing a microscopic image, which happens currently.
7. Pick up changes to environment variables without requiring unload and restart of ObjectDock. If I go into Windows Systems Settings/Environment Variables and add or edit an environment variable, the change is not seen by ObjectDock when I subsequently click and start icons. So for example, I don't have an icon for the regular Windows command prompt on the ObjectDock but instead have to pin it to the Windows taskbar, so that if I need to change the environment, subsequently starting up a new command prompt will see the change.
Thanks for taking up these items for consideration.
