WindowFX 2.1: Why wait for Longhorn?

Great minds think alike it seems. Over the past few months Stardock has been working on a host of new effects for WindowFX 2.1. One of the new effects is controlling how windows are displayed when you move them. Now there's a whole set of different effects to choose from when you move a window. More importantly, on a decent video card (such as the ATI Radeon with the new drivers just released) having these effects are completely hardware accelerated so you don't take a big speed hit using them.

You may not be able to view that clip without Windows Media Player 9 installed.

just curious, exactly when or how does WindowFX is coming out, cause the most recent realease in ODNT is beta.

Looking in Component Manager I only see v2.09a being available when I filter as "Vire All Components"... no v2.1

And if You mouseover the tray icon it says 2.1. So 2.09 is 2.10 BETA. Normal numbering on ODNT.

Killer. Ive had this for a while with objectdesktop and never used it till now. Pretty cool stuff. Im running a 32mb radion 7000 graphics card. Some stuff is a little slow with that but its still pretty cool.

Why FX2.1 does not register on my Stardock Central as an update? My version is still FX2.00.002.

I love WindowsFX accept for the fact that it is soooooooooo slow on my machine. I'm running a P3 1.3mhtz with 512 ram and it's still slow . . . is there anything I could do to speed it up?

With the new Catalyst 3.4 drivers and the new WindowsFX, the effects are vastly improved on my Radeon 8500 card. Nice work, and I'd say you most definitely beat MS to the punch.

It's just too easy to look at the animations in the longhorn videos and think windowfx. But it'll be different in longhorn.

From what I have read MS is replacing GDI and GDI+ with their new 3d interface so windows will be made from the ground up 3d.
WindowfX only has the windows as 3d objects when they are being animated and it runs on top of the normal GDI and GDI+.

As a result in longhorn you can be animating and interacting with applications at the same time, and have them be transparent. You can have a notepad htat is spinning while you type in it. WindowfX can't do this AFAIK.

Not that I'm saying it's a crappy product. It's good for the meantime. But to say it's just like longhorn is not true.

Works great on mine -- GeForce4 MX 440 with the latest drivers and DirectX 9. Do notice some pixel garbage on the last couple pixel rows of any given window when using transitions. Probably just the card because WinFX is ATI optimized. Good stuff tho. Thanks guys.

Nakor - You may not be able to view that clip without Windows Media Player 9 installed.

confirmed that i cannot play this in windows media player 8
