On a serious note, I'm glad we have universal health care here in Oz, cos there's no way I could afford the insurance premium when I have several 'pre-existing conditions' that'd put it well out of my reach.  I mightn't get the best care there is, and it took a while to get into the system, but I have received great treatment and a highl standard of care during all my recent visits to the specialist clinics at the local hospital.

I really can't understand why so many people over there are so against/afraid of it, universal health care.  Sure governments can cock up, but geez, look at what private enterprise did to the banking sector over there.... bastards decimated it, and millions went down the gurgler as a result.  I mean, I get it that some of you don't want to pay for anyone alse's health cover, but what goes around comes around.  I paid in for years and never took anything back out while others did, but now I and dependent on that very system for the care I receive.

Well Gmc2...to truly understand how the world works you need to think on a global level. For instance how about this scenario...as it stands now our population will very soon grow to a level that our resources will not be able to sustain everyone...and the impact will be felt worldwide. What do you think the powers that be will do? It's much easier to get rid of a bunch of people than it is to grow more food...and who do you think they will get rid of? As it is now we are really straining our resources. And if you think we have border problems now...wait till the shit hits the fan. The last thing anyone will be thinking about will be healthcare.
