It's all a matter of perception.

When you spend two grand for an $800 machine, pc users find you rather nutty.  Macs, by virtue of not being available through multiple outlets and victim to price control, are often an utter ream job for sub standard equipment at the higher end.  The base inputs on their computers are usually relatively well priced, but you're paying even more for those higher grade components than you would getting cored out by Dell.  You have to be really rabid to pay a 100% premium or better for a high end machine all so you can use a fraction of the software on a handicapped operating system.

Then there's the iCrap line of products, which, whether useful or not, have never been anything revolutionary.  That every new iteration of someone elses better product is treated like the holy grail by the apple fanbase is scary.  Ignoring that Maddox is a tard, it's things like this that cause me to wonder where the brain cells have gone when someone buys the latest over-priced knockoff of someone elses superior product.

If I say someone is 52 cards short of a full deck and left with two jokers upstairs for buying the first iPhone, I'm not really being fervent and rabid.

No GPS is a dealbreaker for me.  The way I would want to use this, as a "take anywhere" device, just doesn't work without GPS.

Other surprising disappointments on the released version were...

A) 64 gb max...are you kidding me?

not OSX/intel, so I can't really run anything I'd want to on it

C) no camera at all, and i thought it would have two--one for video conferencing, another for taking pictures

D) too thick, but I knew the OLED screens aren't ready...an OLED iPad will be wafer thin and a most happy device!

E) no SD slot...see A)

F) only 1024x768 resolution, and only 720p output (which it can't play native since the screen isn't 1280)

G) huge bezel real estate.  Either increase the screen or decrease the bezel, but lordy what a TON of wasted screen real estate!

I love my iPod Touch (the perfect car media player) but this is missing the key things I would need to replace my laptop with it...something I would have bet real money on yesterday that I would do with the iPad.  But, notsomuch today.  8P

No. The fact that it uses the iPhone's OS instead of full-blown OSX, has no multitasking, no USB and you have to *buy* a separate adaptor to plug in SD cards are simply deal-breakers for me.

I want a portable computer, not a toy.

No multitasking, no "normal" apps, limited storage (and no usb and no card reader), limited specs,... It fails as a PC because technical limitations, it fails as a ebook reader because no e-ink, it fails as a serious media device because limited storage, it fails as a portable device because of the size,... Honestly, I don't see clearly where this product is aimed.

If this succeeds, it will because of Apple great marketing machine, but the iPad failed to deliver in all fronts.

One, I currently use my iPhone to browse the net in the evening and its tiny screen is a bit of a bummer at times. I have my beloved ThinkPad T400 but it is a bit too heavy to just have sitting on my lap to surf the net and its form factor doesn’t lend itself to reading.

Two, I use my iPhone for watching movies while I work out and it’s small screen is annoying for that. I don’t use the laptop because, again, the form factor doesn’t let me easily put it up on things.

That's probably where the device will succeed. There are many people in his situation. I too find myself surfing the Web on my iPhone while sitting on my sofa. I bought a netbook to solve that problem, but found that when I am not at my computer I am not really surfing the Web a lot or do very much except read. Hence the netbook is overkill and the form factor doesn't lend itself to not being in the way.

(Thank goodness I don't have this "X limitations to it" problem. I like my netbook and would never have bought it if I had that attitude and wouldn't buy Windows on principle because of the obvious limitations.)

Maybe.  But I'd also want an iMac so that I could develop for it.  I'd take one as a wedding gift.
