Jafo has never seen snow falling....
Well according to some here, you're not missing much... but from what I can recall of my youth in the UK, yeah, it's a pretty special and noteworthy sight. However, it can/does have its drawbacks!
I recall one Winter in particular, which was more bitter than others I had known, and the snow had drifted halfway up my upstairs bedroom window. meaning we couldn't get out the front door. That was alright... we'd go out the back one instead, right? Wrong, the wind changed during the night and the back door was snowed in as well. Worse still, there was no tap water... fortunately dad was forward thinking and filled the bathtub beforehand.
Temps that week ranged from -12c to -20c... and there was NO school... no work either, which for dad was no good because he was a contract plasterer and depended on daily work for income. So yeah, despite it being an amazing sight, it was a pretty miserable week for all those affected, now I look back on it. The cottage across the road was completely buried in snow (6 foot plus on top of the roof again... we had to look out of our upstairs windows to see...er' not see it) and it had to have major structural repairs due to the sheer weight of it.
So yeah... a pretty sight, but also an expensive pain in the arse.
