Yes, it’s another “best of” 2009 article, but I think these are fun and useful to others who might discover a new app or game they haven’t heard of before. 20009 saw quite a few new and updated applications in all types of categories, including mobile.
This is my list of some of the most useful I found:
These are some of my favorites, so lets hear yours!
Tineye - TinEye is a reverse image search engine
Microsoft Security Essentials - it just works....and it doesn't bog down my system(s)
PDF-XChange Viewer - dumped Adobe Reader (security hole & bloatware)
Dropbox.......one of my favorites also
honorable mention....HydroCAD R9, Directory Opus R9.5 (x64), Rainmeter 1.1
OpenOffice, easily. No more plunking down $200 for Microsoft Office. The Java API hooks into it aren't as good as the Visual Basic macros in Excel, but it's all open source and you can plug in stuff to all of the applications--not just the spreadsheet.
Openoffice, Fences, Winstep, KIS 2010, Damn Small Linux, Ubericon

One app I've been impressed with is Lunascape, a three engined browser that's fast and reliable... does all that Firefox can and more. It's skinnable, uses FF addons and plugins, is tabbed, etc, etc. Moreover, if a certain site doesn't happen to like the Gecko engine, you can switch to the IE one or Safari's.
Is it worth checking out? I think so... and WC loads really fast to boot.
I go with Dropbox too. It has really been of great help to me.
Auslogics Disk Defrag...much faster than the built-in Windows defrag. And, it is free!
CDBurnerXP...burns CD's and DVD's...gets the job done...and, it is free!
Microsoft Security Essentials....doesn't hog system resources, and it is free!
Ditto, I think.....still considering...
And Fences, of course....
Thanks, mate. Looks good so far.
Deskscapes and Object Desktop (of course). Opera Browser. MS Office 2010 Beta so far. And always Winstep...the new interface is excellent.
Nero 9
Acronis True Copr 2009
AnyVideo Converter
Fastone Image Resizer
Ashampoo Music Studio
DVD Profiler (catalogues DVD/video content)
AverMedia Media Centre
,,,, and of course, ObjectDesktop, ObjectDock Pro, CursorFX Pro
ColorPicker http://uzaclan.com/eagle/
NexusFont http://xiles.net/programs/
StartKiller http://www.tordex.com/startkiller/
Faststone ImageViewer http://www.faststone.org/
And my staples are Windowblinds, IconPackager, CursorFX and ObjectDock
