Docked tab/drawer problem(s)...

Hi everyone,

I've recently started using ObjectDock (immediately upgrading to Plus) and am loving the ease of use and great functionality it brings. However, I'm noticing a couple of problems associated with my docked tabs/drawers.

Not all of the icons in my docked tabs/draws show as what I would get if I were viewing the shortcut as a thumbnail/tile/icon in a normal folder window. Does anyone know how to find/extract the icon used in a 'normal' view and use it as the ObjectDock icon? If not, is there a readily accessible archive of slightly obscure games/programs/apps where I could download any relevant icons?

I have a few docked tabs/drawers at the top of my screen set to autohide and 'tabs always on top'. They slide out when I click one of the tabs. However, I am often finding that they disappear behind an open window (no distinction between maximised or not). The easiest way yo get them working as I intended again, is to move/minimise the window covering them and click one tab per drawer (to get it to slide out), then move/maximise the window back to where it was. This isn't exactly difficult but can get rather time consuming and is a bit of a nuisance. Does anyone know what might be causing this and/or what I can do to 'fix' it?

1. Not sure why some icons don't display properly. I occasionally have that problem (i.e.-System Mechanic Pro)

There are tons of dock icons in the ObjectDock gallery, and other types of icons in the Misc. Icons gallery. I have found almost everything I'd ever need there. Of course, if you need something specific, you could always ask a skinner to help, do a google search, or try creating one yourself!

2. Could you post a screen shot of the config window showing your tabbed dock positioning settings?

I'm beginning to get my head round making my own icons, but does anyone have an idea as to why my second problem's occurring? I've attached a screen shot of the config window (shown below) which includes my two tabbed docks at the top of the screen (sides and bottom of desktop have been cropped) - both docks have the same config.

Just to reiterate the problem, I'm sometimes finding that the docks are hiding behind windows rather than appearing on top - the only workaround I've found (detailed in the first post) is beginning to get on my nerves since I often have many applications open at once. This problem also happens whether am using a dual or single monitor display at the time.

one thing you can do is turn on the mouseover activation, when it is behind that will bring it to front simply by touching the edge of the screen with your mouse... as for the prob you are having... it's common, and I believe stardock is working on it...

To reemphasize what da_zman said, and to add a bit: compare our 2 config windows. Maybe try similar settings to what I have and see if that helps.

Hmm... I do like being able to see where the tabs are, but I'm giving the 'mouseover activation' another try.

One little thing I notice now is that if one drawer is open and I move the mouse to open another one, if the second drawer has started sliding out before the first has finished sliding away, they'll both disappear once the first has finished concealing itself meaning I have to effectively wait for one drawer to fully close before trying to open another. I seem terribly adept at finding problems, but has this one been raised before too?

I've recently started using ObjectDock (immediately upgrading to Plus)

OD free needs to be uninstalled before you install ODPlus. If you didn't do that, save the theme you've created, make a copy of whatever icons, docklets and backgrounds you've added and any themes you've saved, uninstall the plus, uninstall the free if it still shows, reboot, re-install the Plus.

When you copy the icons back, you need to put them in the same place they were before or else the themes you've saved won't find them and you'll have to change the icons again. If you had the icons in a Non-Object Dock folder (i.e. you put them somewhere besides a directory created by Object Dock) it won't be a problem, OD won't delete them.
