Which version was installed, lou? I would suggest rolling back to 3.5....I recommend you uninstall what you have, go into Impulse and UNCHECK Beta/pre-release versions. Then close and reopen Impulse. The last fully tested and working version should appear. Install that.

I also think this thread should be moved to the Desktop X Support category where it might catch the eye of Curt or the other support folks. In that spirit, I think you should send an email to support@stardock.com and include this thread's url. If you can use stardock irc I would suggest logging on if the problem is severe/acute.
