Impulse and Goo?

Impulse Goo?

I'll admit. I am a little confused about this GOO thing now that some of the games say their copy protection is Impulse Goo. So if I order Majesty 2 from Impulse, for example, I would have the copy protection of Impulse plus the added DRM of GOO on top of what Impulse does already? If I ordered Majesty 2 retail, the copy protection is Goo but not linked to Impulse?

I mean Impulse and GOO are not one in the same right?

If I order it from Steam, it looks the only DRM for Steam is, well, Steam itself?

Goo allows developers to associate licenses with people rather than their PCs which will eliminate the issue of "limited activations". It also provides the underpinnings to support vendor neutral software downloads and transferring of licenses.

it's basically kinda like getting game developers to license the software the way stardock does with it's software

For clarification...

Impulse provides account-level protection by restricting access to the download & updates to users who have a valid registration on their account.

GOO provides activation protection on the game executable. This is the same activation system used by all of Stardock's titles. This is an extra bit of protection to ensure that the copy installed and run is valid too. If you get the game via Impulse, this activation is seamless to you as the client automatically handles it.

Majesty 2 is using GOO at retail as well as on Impulse. This means you'll be able to take your retail CD key and register it with your Impulse account, and have a digital copy as well as the physical copy.

So are you saying that a game like Demigod already does that same thing, it's just not listed on Impulse's store in the same way aka Protection: Impulse GOO?

So does the GOO activation require contact with a Stardock server? The publisher's server? Or either, as such servers happen to be available?

GOO activation is handled on our end by our servers. If you install the game through Impulse, this is done silently and automatically for you.

Games like Demigod are not technically using GOO, but use our activation system, which is very similar. Some games on Impulse do not use GOO at all.

Hello,

Today i bought Majesty 2 the Fantasy Kingdom Sim at my retail store in France.

I am interested in registering the CD-Key on Impulse so i get an easy life with the patches. I know i'm lazy.

Anyways, i opened Impulse, clicked "register a product", then "add registration", i entered the serial number, e-mail adress (already in since i'm connected into impulse already), category "games" then found majesty 2 in the product list. When i clicked the add registration to confirm, it's saying it's not accepting, because it only accepts Stardocks keys.

Well well, can anyone help me here? Do you only accept USA game keys or european too? The game is sold worldwide on impulse so it should be accepting mine.

What can I do ?

Haha, while i was typing my e-mail to the support and retrying the process simultaneously, it finally worked.

i didn't do anything different except that the first times the game was not installed and activated at its launch. maybe it has to do with it? i have no idea.

now it works fine, and it's a good game so far.
