Hi:
I downloaded Fences based on the recent CNET blog post. Let me say that this is a product I have been looking for a long time and it has great potential. I use the Windows desktop as my main work area and tend to keep all my files on it (kinda like my physical desktop) and it does get cluttered.
I have, however, run into an issue with Fences. I am not sure if it's a limitation of the program or my own misinterpretation of how it works. The issue is where a file, saved to the desktop, will appear. So if I write a file in Word and save it to the desktop (something I do several times a day) where will it go and how do I get it into the appropriate fence?
It appears that these files get placed into the topmost fence (the one that the install config set up as "quick links"). Is there any way to control this? (Edit: I've sence seen a couple of unanswered posts raising similar concens).
I realize that there may be technical issues that complicate this problem. My sense is that Fences does not support the concept of an icon being outside a fence on the desktop. I came to this conclusion based on the fact that I could not move my recycle bin out of the fence it was placed into (quick links) so I could place it in the lower corner as I prefer. I worked around that by creating a one icon fense which I plcaed where I wanted it.
Perhaps one work around would be if you could designate a fence to receive saves (e.g. a fence called new files) and then you would be able to sort them into the appropriate fences.
Am I missing something here or is this a limitation of the software?
Best,
Charlie
