Stardock Virtual Desktops update fails

Impulse says there's an update for Stardock Virtual Desktops as of 12/18/2008. After downloading, it says downloaded file cannot be verified (MD5 does not match). I'm unsure if there's an actual update which isn't working, or the update is a bad one to begin with.

There are a lot of updates listed in Impulse that aren't really updates. I would guess that is one.

I'm sure someone who knows for sure will show up and answer for sure.

i think that's when they moved it to Impulse from SDC

2.09c[a] is the same version number showing on SDC

Hello,

Virtual Desktops is no longer under development. Stardock has chosen to suspend development of this application to focus more on it's core competencies, as well as due to the ready availability of similar apps in the market.

Please let me know whether this resolves your problem or if you have any additional questions.

The MD5 error is a known issue with the pre release version of Virtual Desktops on Impulse. Disabling pre-release versions should resolve this.

Like I said in the e-mail above, Virtual Desktops is no longer being developed. It's not impossible that it could make a comeback, but it's pretty unlikely that it'll be worked on anytime soon.

Disabling pre-release versions should resolve this.

Which then would not show me betas of those items that are getting attention

Being in support, I try not to encourage the use of Beta software, but yes, this is true.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I'm sad that Virtual Desktops aren't being supported anymore, but I understand. Even nVidia drivers as far back as 86.63 have a similar function under nView (though I haven't played with them yet).

while there may be other apps in the market, none as good as SD CC and VD imo.

I have come to depend heavily on CC with VD installed inside it and i have to say nothing else comes close.

I really need to re install both of these and am beside myself that i cannot do so. Perhaps i need to play more with object dock to see if I can adapt to it but, hehe i'd rather not.

Help? suggestions??

if they came with your original purchase of odnt, maybe contact support with a request - that's how i got webblinds back a long time ago

I'm really sorry to hear that, since that gem was one of the main reasons for me to buy Object Desktop (which I once used with OS/2 for thousand years ago... ). Since I've started using Windows 7 (64 bit), it no longer seems to work.

Does anybody have a suggestion for a decent replacement? Please don't mention Mickeysoft Powertoys/Sysinternal excuses for virtual desktop though...

nVidia's nView Desktop Manager has virtual desktops. I've toyed with them only very briefly, though, so consider this more a "go check this out" than a real recommendation.
