Dr.JBHL....
I'm a tinkerer. I take things apart to see what makes them tick. My father was an auto mechanic. At age 8 he taught me how to listen to an engine and diagnose what the problem was and not pat myself on the back too too much I got pretty good at it. I rebuilt my first engine at 14 and swung my first a year later.
This is how I got into computers back in 98. I became fascinated with how they work. Went to school to learn how to build them but alas I was unable due to financial difficulties to complete the course. I did however manage the first six months which got me the A+ cert. I can build 'em...even modify the s**t out of 'em. I clicked on the link to Impulse and got blown away. That was after I read some of the article about the history of 3D graphics cards.
I don't have any games on my XP hard drive. In fact I removed them because I'd rather have the space for my graphics. Seeing how advanced they are these days and the awesome capabilities of these cards I'm thinking that once I'm back in the thick of things I thinking of spending time to accumulate parts for a second homebuilt. My reasoning goes like this.
I start with the mobo. Then the CPU...graphics card(s)...video card...memory...etc. etc. A monitor LCD that can double as a TV. Big enough to really take advantage of the 3D capabilities of these new cards. This is in keeping with my tinkerer ways...lol. I think with enough time and patience I can come up with a real screamer. Impulse I'm beginning to think can go a long way to achieving this end because one of it's principal functions is game support. What I could do with those kinds of graphics...or at least using programs to generate 'em. Not so much the animations but the images themselves.
I figure that instead of a storebought I can use the money to custom build not a gamer but a rig dedicated to 3D graphics as a whole. I've got a ton of apps, renderers and such. So if you don't mind me using you or someone else as a sounding board I'm pretty sure I can gain enough knowhow to pull this off. Just ranting away to generate some motivation.
Thanks for listening. Happy skinning!!
