New WC Poll: Are You Going to Skin Windows 7?

In the last poll on WinCustomize we asked if you have downloaded Windows 7 RC. Judging by the results, the answer is an overwhelming yes.

This week I wanted to expand on that and ask if you are interesting in customizing the visual look of Windows 7, with applications such as WindowBlinds.

Sorry, but that's a hugely flawed argument. You could as well state that rape is legal as long as noone threaten with a law suite.

Well, I can see that I won't be changing your opinion here mickeko. However, so that others do not also take your flawed advice: As one of 300 recipients of VMware's vExpert 2009 award, I do believe I know what I am talking about here. 2 very good reasons: #1 - VMware does NOT allow any illegal virtual machine images to be posted/linked to on their website and/or forums. #2 - I am certain that Microsoft are fully aware of the existence of this Win7 RC virtual machine (and the earlier beta build, and the Win2008 R2 RC, etc.), and if they found it to be a violation of their EULA, you can be very certain they would have requested VMware to pull the link. So please stop spreading your FUD about this. Po (and others) - feel free to do as I've mentioned, and isolate/protect your real host from beta software in this easy and free method.

Here's a snippet from the terms of use on the download site for the windows 7 RC:

... COPYING OR REPRODUCTION OF THE SOFTWARE TO ANY OTHER SERVER OR LOCATION FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION OR REDISTRIBUTION IS EXPRESSLY PROHIBITED, UNLESS SUCH REPRODUCTION OR REDISTRIBUTION IS EXPRESSLY PERMITTED BY THE LICENSE AGREEMENT ACCOMPANYING SUCH SOFTWARE.

Here's a LINK, you can check it out yourself.... So, please tell me where in the license agreement of the Windows 7 RC you found the statement that it's allowed to reproduce or redistribute it? As far as I know Windows 7 does NOT include any such statement, and as such is covered by the general terms of use.

The image IS illegal. I don't think Microsoft is going to start chasing people redistributing a publicly available release candidate though, but that fact doesn't make it legal.
