ObjectDock backgrounds and so classification

... what a mess on my PC ...

As i just bought a mini notebook (and installed of course some Stardock software on it ), i just noticed ( ) that Objectdock Backgrounds folder is classified in four categories

- Non-Tabbed (mean Zoomer i guess ?)

- Tabbed

- Tabbed Only

- Tiles

For now, i just put everything concerned as "backgrounds" in the root of Backgrounds (LoL), though it's a terrific mess on my PC.

My question is: what's the difference between Tabbed and Tabbed-Only (??) and how can i recognize the stuff on my PC, to move to the right categories (some have an explicit name but some - older - have not , and when done is there a simple way to correct all my theme.ini's files (with a text editor for instance) to bring the correct pathes names to things ?

N.B: my backgrounds folder is about 300 Mo, though you can imagine how much skins i get in to re-organize

The only folder you really need is the one in Programs/Stardock/Objectdock/backgrounds. All the others you can just delete. As far as anything without a name you can give it a name by opening the .ini file and right under [info]...type "Name = YourName" and save it. Make sure the main folder has the same name as well and if the background has extra images such as Plus/Minus images make sure those are given the same name, Those will be found at the bottom inside the .ini file and will look like this...

[Extras]
PlusImage = Backgrounds\YourNameTab1\Plus.png
MinusImage = Backgrounds\YourNameTab1\Minus.png

...and make sure you do the same for each tab like the one above YourNameTab2.....YourNameTab2 and so on.

Those are the folders Stardock has created for the included backgrounds to be in, why, not sure. If I remember correctly the simple or standard, not sure which, must stay in the folder they are in for the tabs to be used when you use a standard background for a tabbed dock. I will check this tomorrow, have a render running now.

OD nows what type backgrounds are, standard( zoomer, tiles) or tabbed, by the .ini, not by the folder they are in.

Ok, though it's quiet reassuring and if i correctly understand (damned english ) , the four specific sub-folders which Stardock made (Tabbed, Tabbed Only, Non-Tabbed and Tiles) are there just to eventually help user to bring more classification when installing docks backgrounds ?

As i didn't made any Dock background myself but just use the one found here by unziping the files directly in Objectdock\Backgrounds folder, everything's OK ? that's what you mean ?

For instance (quite by chance ), something which is called "AeroExecTab1" and /or "AeroExecZ1" have just to be in Programs/Stardock/Objectdock/backgrounds ? If i'm correct I've nothing to re-organize and i've just to copy all the backgrounds folder to my new mini laptop toy (very funny indeed and usefull with a 7 hours battery power )

Exactly Neophil! Those extra folders were created to be used for .dockzip files...but no one I know...including me ever uses the .dockzip method of packaging dock backgrounds. And I think this also came about because of Vista and something to do with dumping everything in your "My Documents" folder. Just just delete all those extrra folder...dump everything in the Programs/Stardock/Objectdock/backgrounds folder and you'll be just fine.

I started doing it WG's way, and never looked back. Usually the "ReadMe" in each skin gives pretty good instructions on how to do it.

Yep i've both same folders in "Program files/Stardock/" and in "My Documents" (on one PC it was installed as My Documents/Stardock/Objectdock/... and on another one the installation is on My Documents/Objectdock/ ... ) so it's a bit confusing. BTW it seems that in any case, themes are stored mainly in the "My Documents" subfolder (whatever path it is)

I'll do what you are suggesting and delete all these Stardocks folders (i don't use that silly .dockzip files and even if i see one it goes to the bin LoL)

You can still use those...just click on it and when you see it open up and show you the folders it unzips just highlight them and send them to the Programs/Stardock/Objectdock/backgrounds folder and everything will work. You just may have to check your "My Documents" folder in case it added those folders to it again...and if so just delete them.
