Windowblinds window size problem

I posted this in a ticket to Stardock but the solution did not help me and support is a bit slow. So Im posting this here in hopes someone has a solution.

I have been having a bit of trouble with WB lately. When I use updates for some programs such as Spyware Doctor, or any program where the update window or any popup window pops up, the window seems zoomed in and is cut off at the bottom covering the bottom buttons. And when the window is updated, changed or clicked on, it automatically re sizes itself to a smaller window.

I have tried verifying WB in Impulse, reinstalled the update it found, and same issue. I know that it is Windowblinds because if I go back to the default Aero theme, the problem is fixed. Also when I have WB enabled with a skin, I cant start important apps like firefox or other important tasks because they crash automatically before they start. This is because of the messed up window sizes. Again when I disable the skin and go to Aero, the apps don't crash immediately and everything works as it should. I don't know why this is happening but I had the window re size problem yesterday and I even went as far as reinstalling Vista to start fresh, after I reinstalled and applied Prowler and some other skins, they all had the re sized window that was cut off and zoomed in.

I have tried Prowler, Aero Midnight and LED Matrix and also Zing. It happens when I apply ANY skin at this point. All popup windows are not sized right and I have no option to resize these types of windows. There is no double sided arrow for a resize, and the resize right click option is greyed out. When the winow cant be skinned all apps crash even the WB config. The Stardock tech said it was caused when the default system font is set higher than what is normal. My font has always been 96 dpi and i only change fonts via WB config. I tried applying 120 font then reapplying 96 dpi and it fixed one window size for only a few minutes, then the errors came back and keep coming back.

Sorry for the long post but I can't use WB at all anymore and Iam paying for the liscense to a broken app. Its kind of annoying since I paid 79.99 for ultimate desktop, and Stardock offers neither remote chat nor remote assistance, nor phone support as i can find. Also my deskscapes problem was not fixed after 1 week of tech emails back and forth. I just deal with deskscapes pausing and stopping all the time for no reason. However this is getting rediculous since all i have left to use out of an 80$ package is icons and bootskins. Very frustrating lol. Thanks for all help, much apreciated! Some Screens..

Unless I missed it I don't see that you identified the OS you are running, XP or Vista, 32 bit or 64 bit?

There are lots of pop up windows for programs that can not be resized, for instance WindowBlinds configuration. These windows can be affected by the DPI and resolution your monitor is set at. What size is your monitor and what resolution are you running? Keeping your DPI at 96 (normal) is good.

You also indicate that you are having a bit of trouble with WB lately, that seems to say that it did work okay at one time. Is that correct? If so, can you remember installing any programs or updates around the time the problems started? Are you running any other customizing programs other than from Stardock?

Im running the latest WB, Vista 32 SP1 and my only customized programs are from Stardock Ultimate desktop. i have an oddball monitor res at 1360x768.

And yes I have had a subscription for quite some time now, the windows have always been skinning as they should for almost a year. Something changed a setting with popup windows and Im unsure how i got this error. I have reinstalled the OS twice to see if I can get rid of it but something triggers it after the install of WB and it keeps happening. I have a lean system and no new or uncommon programs running. If you need any info please ask and thanks for the help. Here is my dx report also.

All that I can suggest is to thoroughly remove WB from your system, including removing any references from the registry using an app like Regseeker. Then reinstall, making sure to reboot in between. May also help to disable any AV and windows defender during the process.

It has to be some system specific, as I authored some of the skins you have mentioned and can definately say nor I or any of my testers, of which there are quite a few.. or anyone who has downloaded the skins has mentioned it even a single time.

Lastly, resolution shouldn't matter but have you tried a different monitor or rsolution on that monitor?

Hi, thanks but I dont have an nvidia icon in the tray. I have deleted the startup entries that come with nvidia panel. I cant find anything for nveiw from a quick search. Im going to uninstall and follow vstylers instructions by removing all traces. I dunno its a weird issue especially since things always worked. I have had a few of your skins bought and installed vstyler and never had a problem with them. Its any skin at this point when i apply any skin, apps crash that are running and popup windows are resized wrong. I will try the steps and report back in a few. Thanks!

and although odntzapper is a handy tool it does not completely remove every trace from your registry.... to be fair... most software leaves crap in the registry.

I would run regseeker... use "find in registry" option... make sure all checkboxes are checked to search thru and search the terms windowblinds and perhaps stardock if you wanted to be very thorough.

Delete all references found.

This should be done after using zapper\impulse to uniinstall and have rebooted.

Hey guys, ugh what a pain this is lol. I uninstalled and reinstalled with spyware doctor and NIS 09 disabled. I searched the registry via regseeker and deleted all Windowblinds entries it found. Unfortunatley I used the clean registry feature before i read your post vstyler. I noticed it wiped my start menu which sucks but nbd. I hope there arent any other effects of this cleaner. I also used Advanced Systemcare Pro and Ccleaner after the uninstall. I rebooted and reinstalled. When I enabled Norton Internet Security 09 I changed a few skins and the windows did not crash. When I enable Spyware Doctor nothing crashed but the windows were chopped again, the windows I tested were SD update, and your uninstaller. I then disabled SD completley and the your uninstaller window was still chopped after reopening. And I did get one or two crashes after SD was enabled and disabled.

Now as a test My wifes xp pc has virtually all the same software as on mine just running xp on it. I then transfered my WB skins to her pc via external drive. Everything works perfect on her xp pc. She has the same protection as on my pc, NIS 09, SD latest, and ASC pro. Everything works and all windows including SD update skin perfect everytime. I could list all my programs if that helps, but i dont use that many and havent changed them since when i didnt have the issue.

As far as nview, I have a control panel icon that starts nvidia control panel, this has nothing with nveiw in it. But i did read since I disabled nvwiz off of startup, that probably disabled nview.

Another thing is I run a tweaked and lean OS, I used Mz ultimate tweak after a fresh install wich is normal for me applying my own safe tweaks. I also turned off all my uneeded windows services following a guide i always use after a fresh Windows install. http://www.blackviper.com/WinVista/servicecfg.htm I follow the tweaked config. But I have always used these configs even when WB was skinning correctly.

And last, i have no malware, viruses, or trojans of any kind on this PC. I scan regularly with Norton Internet Security 09, Spyware Doctor, and Superantispyware.The only things that SD finds are false positive Windowblinds files that I added to the global actions list to allow these files.

So Iam at a loss with this, Is it possible to start a remote session or something to see the issue first hand or do any other diagnostics? I also have a deskscapes problem that was never solved, Deskscapes pauses and stays paused quite frequently or i get a black paused screen and i have to reapply a new dream to restart the dream. And these problems happen on a new install, all drivers up to date.

Any suggestions are always welcome and i appreciate all the time and help from everyone. Thanks

Thats what I originally thought, it seemed there was less crashes when it was disabled. But thats not the case, I have always had SD running in the taskbar. All last night I have been trying to narrow it down to a cause. The only thing that makes a difference is the font. The tech told me it was a font issue so last night i was constantly messing with the font. I would change it to 120 dpi and go back to 96 dpi right away and hit apply. The problem most of the time fixed and no apps crashed. I open up SD and bam no windows were cut most of the time. BUT, after I rebooted, the font settings I guess changed (even though it still stayed at 96) because the windows were cut off again and when I switch skins, I get a crash in apps. So Im thinking this is a weird font issue like he said, but I dont know what the issue is lol. I have it on 96 dpi cleartype smoothing. No programs i know of is changing any font settings except WB. In WB I have it set to "allow skin to decide font" So Im not sure what the issue is still..

Spyware Doctor and WindowBlinds dont always play nice together. There are known false positives with it detecting portions of WindowBlinds as a threat (specifically wbsrv.dll) which may be the underlying cause of some of your issues.

Also, out of curiosity, what are your DPI settings set to in Windows?

Hi, thanks for the tips, I thought I added all the WB false positives to allow in SD but wbsrv.dll was not one of them so I added that. So far in Spyware Doctor, my WB files set to allow are,

wbsrv.dll, wbinstall32.exe, screen.exe, wbvista.exe, wbconfig.exe, wbload.exe, wb_post.exe and deskscapes.dll dor deskscapes.

Am I missing any files I should add to allow list in SD just to be safe? And 96 dpi is my font setting.

Not that Im aware of deleting fonts but I have been using a few tweak/utility programs like I normally do (Mzauto +ASC Pro), and I dont think they delete windows files. How can I be sure though? Also this error is happening the same in two fresh Vista installs

More and more though its narrowed to the font Im seeing. I have tweaked the system and cleaned the registry today along with defragging my hds. After doing this the crashes almost stopped when I switch between skins. The only crash I get is my download manager crashes if I switch between skin back to aero. If I apply a skin (Prowler my fav) no crashes but pop up windows are cut. When I open font settings in vista and select but dont apply 120, then go back to 96 and hit "apply & ok" most of the time, the pop up window problem is fixed and skinned perfect. I reboot and try the pop up immediatley again and its chopped. So basically everytime I reboot, I have to apply the 96 dpi to fix the problem. Sometimes it dosent fix it and I have to switch back to Aero, then apply prowler and test again.

Thats where it stands a font issue like tech support said. But I still dont know what is causing settings to be reset at reboot. And my font still always stays at 96 dpi and the option "allow skin to choose font" in WB is always set also. So thats tonights update lol. Anything you guys want me to try I will, thanks for all the help and suggestions.

Just an update, I ended up buying a laptop recently and I put the exact same programs on it and use the same config as my desktop. I have not had the issue on the laptop once. Only difference is the laptop is a 64 OS and desktop is 32. Other than that the setup is the same. So Im really puzzled with this issue, Im still trying to fix it but nothing has been helpful so far.

Man I was hoping that this last update fixed the issue Iam having. Unfortunatley first window that popped up after i updated was chopped still. I have also been messing with my new laptop more and Im sorry to say the issue happens on it also. When I first tested it I didnt see it for the first few days. Now I have been using it more since Windowblinds and Deskscapes constantly give me problems on my desktop. I have seen the issues with both deskscapes and windowblinds on the laptop as well. My friend also used the same software config as me to test it out on xp this past week and has not had one issue with the Stardock software.

Unfortunatley support has been slow with one line suggestions that I have already tried. So this is pretty frustrating, since I have installed WB and deskscapes on fresh windows installs 3 times on my desktop, and installed the two programs on my brand new laptop, and have the issues on fresh systems with no other software installed. So in my mind this is a major bug or glitch that hasnt been adressed. Windowblinds chops pop up windows, and deskscapes pauses dreams and does not resume them, and crashes Windows explorer after leaving full screen apps.

These two issues I have had for months and have not been fixed by support. So if anyone has any more solutions, please feel free to pm me, send me an email, or call me. I would be open to remote support, phone support, or email support as long as its frequent and thorough.

Sorry if I come off annoyed, but Iam. I paid 80.00 for the Stardock ultimate suite for all apps. The two apps i wanted to use the most in the suite, I can't use. Windowblinds now has to set to Aero so I dont get any issues, and deskscapes is turned off because of constant freezes or crashes. Sorry but for 80$ per customer, and as big as Stardock is, you would think I could get a fix to the WB problem, which sounds like a font issue or software conflict. And the Deskscapes problem, which is a conflict of some sort, but after reading the deskscapes problems in the past, its not uncommon. Still both issues have not been fixed for me in months. Thanks

My friend also used the same software config as me to test it out on xp this past week and has not had one issue with the Stardock software.

Hate to say it but that basically indicates its a system specific problem, I would format... install WB first thing before amything else.. see if its ok.. if it is.. then install your apps\software one at a time until you narrow down whats screwing your system up.. this is assuming.. its not a hardware problem.

Definitely sounds like a software conflict.......I would look at any other customization programs you use or anything that modifies a window or dialog.
