IconPackager 4.20.178 Issues with Vista 64

Below is a list of issues I noticed upon installing IP on my new Notebook through Impulse, no prior installations of Impulse or IP have been installed. I apologize if some of these are repeated elsewhere, I did look through the forums, but didn't find anything similar. If there are fixes for any of these please let me know or direct me to the relavent posts. I haven't tested the new version on my XP desktop, but if I find these or others there, I'll edit this post appropriately.

When selecting an icon package from the Look&Feel tab, the existing Icon Packages don't show the current preview, only changes after a reload of IP or if the package is loaded from diskdrive manually.
Shortcut folders only display when size is set to small icon/tiled.
In WinExplorer Some folders don't display in any size larger than tiled/small icon (I've tested this with a number of packages, all with the same result).
System Settings don't save or implement, if customized.
There is no 'Apply Changes' Button at the top right!

Even though the system settings can't be changed Package Builder displays as though all Sections are checked, this causes the following two errors:

Package builder still will display the sections that are not checked in system settings
In package builder the following Control Panel (Vista) icons do not save, and while the others are savable, they do not get implemented:

-Folder Options
-Fonts
-Printers
-Scanners and Cameras
-Taskbar and Start Menu

EDIT 3/05: Selecting a package to preview when view is set to thumbnails resolved itself.

Folder display issue resolved. Need to have 'Always show icons, not thumbnails' checked in folder options.

I may not be reproducing this correctly (since it's not failing for me). I have Icon package X loaded. When I open IP I see that set in the default view and inthe preview sub-tab. What do you see?

Only display where? On the desktop? In Windows Explorer?

There are different settings for this, click the Groups button on the toolbar of Package Builder to show/hide sections.

This one seems to have fixed itself. It was when I would click on a new package when 'Filter by Catagory' was set to Film Strip.

Desktop, shortcut folders, they should be the package closed folder icon. In Win Explorer it seems to be random folders that should be the packaged closed folder icon. Here are Screenshots:

As stated above and seen in the screenshots, in WinExplorer. They seem to be random, most are suppposed to be the package's default closed folder. Also the folders for Fonts, Games, and Downloaded Program Files don't change at all.

My guess, as a user, is that this is because with Vista 64 the 'Apply Settings' button that usually appears in the top right of the window whenever something is changed, seems to be MIA.

Thank you for trying to replicate these issues. Hopefully it'll lead to a fix of one sort or another, soon.

P.S. I was able to play with IP on my XP machine and there don't seem to be any issues. Yay that!

I figured out why the WinExplorer folders weren't displaying properly. In folder options I had 'Always show icons, never thumbnails' unchecked. Checking it 'fixes' this issue.

One interesting thing I've seen with IP on Vista 64 SP1 is that shortly after I apply the new icons, the Live Folders begin to revert to the defaults, one by one. It's as if the new Live Folders aren't "sticking". I can manually re-apply the iconpackage by running IP and the Live Folders change from the defaults to the new ones. And then over the next day or two...some start popping back to default.

It happens on Vista 64 no matter which icon package I use and does NOT seem to happen under Vista 32...so far.

I've been beta testing Windows since Dave Cutler was running it on MIPS and I've never seen a bug like this. I'm not finding any obvious rhyme nor reason. It happens on the desktop and in document directories, with pictures directories with subfolders and subfolders+files,with software dirs and pictures dirs. And it "creeps" in that a directory will be normal, then one live folder changes, then a day or two later another, and then another.

An odd one to say the least.

Upon updating to 4.2 on Vista-64, some of the icons are not displaying correctly. I tried to change the package but the same icons are still not showing corerctly. Here is a screen shot. As you can see the outlook, norton, itunes, impulse, and other icons are not showing.

In clarification of my notes above, I just did some more tests with Vista 64 and it appears as though the problem starts right upon Apply Changes with Live Folders that contain nothing but other folders. In other words, if there are only folders with subfolders (and not files and/or files and folders) the Live Folder icon doesn't update to the new change. Other folders change to the new icon, but this one does not. And it seems to creep over time.

And this error does not happen under Vista 32. So I hope that helps debug it.
