Notepad icon goes invisible

I have Vista SP1 and ObjectDock Plus. For some reson, Windows notepad's icon goes invisible on the OD taskbar.

I tried giving it a different icon, I also restarted OD+ but it the icon is visible only the first time I open Notepad. If I close it and open it again, the icon is invisible (see-through) but icon is functionable, I mean, the word Notepad is displayed about the non-icon when I hover the pointer.

I've been having all sorts of problems with the Objectdock taskbar. For instance, rihgt now, I have at least 2 phantom icons of apps I closed hours ago. By phantom I mean white space that displays a caption even though the invisible icons themselves don't work. Also, some of the icons go randomly invisible, like the notepad, firefox and thunderbird (screenshot). Is there a fix?

I have the exact same problem on my running programs!

This is definately a Vista SP1 issue... I tried copying the currenttheme.ini and settings.ini file to my XP machine and the dock doesn't have a problem. I also tried vice versa and it didn't solve the issue.

I never had this error happen when I was running Vista without SP1, so I think it has to be Vista SP1.

I've tried reinstalling Stardock, deleting and reloading all my icons, lookin far and wide on google... nothing.

The problem occurs most for windows explorer windows, screen saver, and microsoft outlook for me.




Most of the missing icons below resulted after I mapped a few network drives and closed the windows.

I also have this issue on XP SP3. I use the task bar icons on a non tabbed dock and just simply turn off and back on the taskbar section of the dock and all is well. Darn shame that it has problems with that since its systray is actually much better than the real systray as far as keeping up to date with what is running.

The programs it hides icons for me are: Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Widnows Explorer.

Anyone seeing a pattern among these programs? (hint: starts with M and ends with icrosoft)

Talked with tech support, tried these steps (didn't solve the problem):

  1. Try right clicking on the entry for the docklet and choose "Dock Entry Properties". Then, click the 'Reset Image' button and see if the icon is returned. If not, Hi,
  3. Please unload/quit ObjectDock so that it is not running, and then go to Start > Run... (Start > Start Menu Search in Vista) and then copy this into the command line:
  5. for XP: %userprofile%\local settings\application data\stardock
  7. for Vista: %userprofile%\AppData\local\stardock\
  9. It will open a file folder. Delete any ObjectDock or ObjectDock Plus folders.

Uninstalled software...
Cleaned out registry of stardock and objectdock entries...
re-downloaded; re-installed;
clean out appdata, common files
deleted program files folder
tried using default skin and setup

NOTHING IS SOLVING THIS PROBLEM!!!!

I think it might have been a recent microsoft update... any ideas?

Do you guys have fingerprint login software installed?

I think that might be the problem... try disabling your fingerprint software services and tasks and run the dock..

Its not just microsoft apps dissapearing on me. Google Chrome likes to go missing as well for me. 

I do have the fingerprint sign on software, but I'd rather use that and just deal with the occasional missing icon if that is what the problem really is.

^Interesting, but that's not really a solution, I use the fingerprint thingie all the time.
