Jafo has a 'brand new' car...

...bit like Pete and Dud's "Momma's got a brand new bag"

OK, so it seems all the movers and shakers at Stardock appear to have the same Porsche...

I really don't like them.....bit too beetle-on-steroids for my liking...

So...

I was all about to rush off and get my first-ever truly Brand New Car...a modest little Yaris [Toyota] when a mate of mine said she couldn't get 4/5ths of eff-all as a trade-in on her car and was gonna flog it privately...

So...here 'tis....

OK, so it's a new interpretation of the word 'new'....as it's VIN is 1991 and first reg'd in '92.

Karinda paid over 30 for it in '97....and I paid 3.

It's [for those who can't recognize it] a SAAB 9000 Turbo ...2.3l 4 cyl 16 valve that puts out 200bhp and can lose me my licence by a factor of 2.4 [probably not all that much less than a Porsche].

With only 201k [in kms] on the clock it's "almost" run-in...and pretty darn good for something 16 years old.

So.....anyone want a '87 Toyota Corolla CS 1600?  Has a bit of rabies in the radiator....foams at the mouth due to a popped head gasket, but otherwise 'ok'? ['OK' being car-trader-speak for 'you won't die immediately...but maybe down the road a bit]...

Yep, I'd have picked the Saab over the Yaris.

Not that the Yaris is too bad; I drive one for work.

Hey! Jafo you are in for some fun with that little beauty. I had a Saab Turbo for a brief period when I worked in London several years ago and I loved it. As soon as I got out onto the motorways that little baby really came into its own. I could knock it up up **!!!!mph and then push down the pedal and wow!! a slight kick and off she would fly. I was doing some work for Saab Aerospace at the time and they made some great fighter aircaft.......and this little turbo was itching for a set of wings to reach for the sky. Have fun, mate but be careful OK

He, he, that reminds me of my Mitsubishi Sigma produced in 1982 I owned while I was in Australia.

I hope your car is as reliable and as solid as mine was.

If you take it to 1,000,000 miles Saab will give you a brand new car for free.   

When you buy a new Aero you get a free trip to the Saab Aero Academy where they teach you how to drive like a fool. You are more than welcome to have my ticket should you feel like coming to the US.

Anyways u can take it to near 500K miles ......... which u cant do with Yaris Toyota

I'm not in America...but Australia....and a Yaris is around 15 thou and up.  The one I would have gone for was more like 20.

If truth be told the saving of maybe 17 thou can buy an awful lot of petrol....probably even enough to get that million miles....

I'm suprized you didn't buy an Australian made car like a Holden.
I'm not sure how well made they are but I've been driving a Holden made Pontiac G8 and I'm pleasantly suprized how nice it is.

Yeah. I bought my 97 Mustang with only 17 miles on it in September of 98 and still have it. 177,365 miles (all mine) later and she still runs great. I love that car and don't see myself getting rid of it anytime soon.

I'm not sure how well made they are but I've been driving a Holden made Pontiac G8 and I'm pleasantly suprized how nice it is.

Most 'Australian' car I've ever owned was a Valiant Charger [VJ] 245 Hemi [Chrysler]...and best thing about that was it had the Torqueflite Tranny....same as used in the Aston Martins of the time.  [Incidentally the triple Weber carby 265 ver was slated to possibly replace the in-house Aston engine back then].

SAABs are well made....the first ver of the 9000 Turbo [3 of them] did a non-stop trial [enduro] at Talladega [sp] ....60,000 miles at an average 132mph....[22 days]...

IR funny thing you said that. I bought my new car in September of last year a 2007 GrandPrix Special Edition. I put about 5,000 miles on it and today I went to the Pontiac dealer to look at the G8 GT. 5.7 liter V8 with 361 hp. I put in my order when the 09's come out in about 2 months.

I hear it's gonna' fly. One of the nice things is since the G8 is rear wheel drive, it does't have the nasty torque steer that the V8 GTX Grand Prix has.
The G8 is a really nice car and I'm sure the V8 is gong to be even nicer. The only thing I dislike about this one is it didn't come with a XM radio.  

Sorry about side tracking your thread, Jafo...that's a real sweet Saab you bought.

CarGuy the 08's don't come with XM but the 09's do. The G8 GXP's comes out at the end of the year. 404 hp in one of those.


5.7 liter V8

They should have just named it the G8 when they first used the Monaro platform and stuffed the corvette engine into it and slapped on a pontiac fascia and GTO badges. What a way to ruin a great name.
