Wow, that made more sense in my head than it does on the page;)Will recent customers be spared this extra cost?
Yep, as long as you bought in the past 6-9 months probably. The issue here is that 6-9 months ago OD was and is still at version 1.9 stable. So I'm guessing that that time frame will be extended to incorporate all people who bought 1.9, so they will get a free upgrade. Those who got 1.5 when they opened their wallet, like me, will have to splash the cash again.
Technically, you shouldn't have to pay to have bugs fixed. Software should work 100% out of the box and if it doesn't then devs need to take care of stuff for free.
Judging by the number of bugs that have accumulated from latest stable release, a beta and a new alpha, the devs will have their hands busy for quite some time. In fact, I'll even have the audacity to predict that by this time next year there won't be OD+ 2.0. At least, not a version that would work 100%, a beta maybe but not a stable release. Things keep piling up for Stardock and it's difficult to see them coming out of this rout any time soon.
The situation is quite desperate to say the least. Those who are on a stable release and having problems are advised to check out the beta and then told to try out the alpha if things aren't working. However, beta and alpha have some bugs in them already and then people are told to go back to stable release. Things are stuck in a vicious circle. I never came across such situation with any other bit of software I ever used...
